10 important tips for staying motivated

purpose Dec 10, 2022

Many people think the motivation for their goals, in their work or personal life, is out of their control. They constantly expect external rewards for the work they’re interested in. However, there’s no need for this, because there’s already a guiding principle or primary purpose in life that will keep their desire awake, excited, and direct their choices.

But know this; your primary purpose has nothing to do with anything but yourself. Simply, it has to do with your own inner life.

Here you’ll see how your primary purpose in life moves you forward by being aware of your personal reality, and you’ll notice your inner motivation increase tremendously. You’ll be so eager to bring your actions to life that you won’t need anyone, or anything, to motivate you externally.

Here is your purpose in life.

Your first motivation to be born into reality and your biggest reason to survive.

What is motivation?
The word ‘motivation’ is derived from the root ‘mot’, which means ‘to act’ in Latin. In psychology, we think of this as ‘behaviour directed towards a certain purpose with inner driving forces’. Motivation gives us the energy we need to start a particular business or idea, and pushes us to take action. In fact, what’s meant by motivation is the motives behind people's actions. We all have motives at different levels and in different forms. For example, a hungry person eats to satisfy their hunger, or an employee tries to do the job given to them in the best possible way to be successful.

We see motivation in two ways, internal or external, depending on the source. Internal motivation is entirely related to the person themselves, while external  motivations are the opposite. For example, if an employee is doing their job in anticipation of reward or praise, the source of motivation is external. However, with inner motivation, it’s possible for us to progress and gain knowledge on subjects that we enjoy or are naturally curious about.

Individuals may need intrinsic motivation for different behaviours. It can be difficult to know which behaviours will need more intrinsic motivation, because this kind of motivation occurs between the individual and the activity.

For one individual, a behaviour may be exhibited due to intrinsic motivation, while for another individual, it might not be performed depending on intrinsic motivation. Each individual will have different timeframes and emphasis on high-priority exciting work.

Why is motivation important?
Motivation is the force that energises our behaviour and prompts action; we’re influenced by this power and become willing to take action towards a goal. Motivation is a general concept that encompasses many things in a person (needs, wishes, etc).

Sometimes in life, we find ourselves thinking about negativities so much that at that moment, we lose our focus and our mind starts to create other negativities. What will get you out of this situation will be your motivational energy. Thanks to motivational energy, we move towards the achievements we aim for.

Motivation is an important force for learning and a force that enables us to take action. A student who isn’t motivated enough isn’t ready to learn yet. They won’t be willing to learn unless there’s a very strong desire and will to push them to learn and take action. Motivation is very important not only for students, but also for teachers to know how to motivate their students and to believe in the importance of the work they do.

In order to have healthy communication in business life, people need to know what they’re motivated by, be aware of their values, and regulate their relations with their environment. In this way, it’s seen that the productivity and efficiency of people increase because they’ll be more peaceful in the jobs where they work with high intrinsic motivation.

So, how can you motivate yourself?

You can’t expect to be successful without a specific purpose in life, or without an idea of what field you want to be successful in. Living with a purpose in life keeps you more centered, focused, and puts you on a more barrier-free path. Having a purpose in life will always keep your motivation alive on the path that will lead you to success.

People who only chase big dreams and have no purpose will have difficulty taking action or be unable to achieve real success. If you don’t want to have difficulty focusing on what you’re doing, be clear about your primary purpose and goal. Recognise and capture the enthusiasm and passion within you that’s enough to fulfil your desires, so the energy from your excitement will constantly move you towards taking action and seeing great results.

Here are some tips that will help you to unleash the passion inside you.

1. Set a big goal

Make sure you have a goal that will alight your passion.

Don’t forget: if you don’t have a direction to walk, you won’t have a step to take. Without having a specific goal, you’ll never be able to focus and have enough motivation. After determining what’s important to you, create a detailed list of reasons to break your daily routines and move towards the goal. Soon you’ll see that your motivation increases automatically. If you make your goal a priority in your daily life, you’ll come closer to achieving it. With true dedication, you pursue your goal with pleasure and without any compulsion.

2. Start with small steps

Assuming you now have a big goal, the smallest step towards your goal is very valuable. As long as you start somewhere, your next step will come right after. Remember, according to universal laws, from the first moment you take action, your vibration will spread to those around you and focus the creation of consciousness, and you’ll easily achieve your goal with an intense inner desire. Don’t stop now, act now.

3. Sort the jobs you like and don't like

What makes you, you? Make a list of the things you enjoy doing, and your personal interests. Go through the list again and look at your hobbies, goals and action plans in those areas of interest. Now that you see which of these might be a target for you, you can understand what triggers your passion the most. When your day is filled with exciting high-priority actions, there’ll be no room for boring tasks that don’t automatically have a priority. If you love what you do or do what you love, you become aligned with the forces of universal law. Wherever you honour yourself, the universe will support you in your choices.

4. Learn a new skill

Learn more about the things you’re passionate about. We learn more quickly about the things we’re interested in, than those we’re not. That’s why in learning, our mind is always focused and our motivation is constantly alive. Studies show there’s a strong relationship between motivation and achievement. It has been found that students with high motivation remember the problems they’ve failed to solve rather than the problems they have solved, while students with low motivation remember the problems they have solved. The motivation for success depends on the need for success. People who see what they’ve achieved and are satisfied, are internally motivated to achieve newer successes.

5. Celebrate your success

Some people are in a state of perpetual dissatisfaction. They’re never satisfied with what they do. They don’t see their achievements and they don’t appreciate themselves. If we stop being dissatisfied and appreciate even our smallest achievements, our hearts will be filled with compassion.
If you do this, you’ll not only experience daily changes, but also gradually change your life. Write down a few things you value about yourself each day. There are always wonderful things you’ve experienced in your life, so remind yourself of them often and appreciate them. You’ll see that you’ll get rid of this state of anxiety in your mind and put it into a state of peace in your heart, and you’ll feel a sense of gratitude. The more peace and satisfaction you find in what you do, the more motivational energy you’ll be filled with.

6. Surround yourself with motivated people

Emotions are contagious. We carry the vibrations of the people we come into contact with, just as those around us are affected by our vibrations. For example, after spending a long time with a depressed person, it’s inevitable that we feel depressed. This also applies to your motivation. It’s very important to ensure the continuity of our motivation; your influence will reflect on the people around you and then spread to the whole world. The echo and resonance of your motivational energy will multiply throughout the universe and then return to you. Your motivation will influence those around you.

7. Understand the importance of feedback

Another issue that affects motivation is evaluating your own achievements. Can you honestly explain your expectations to yourself? You can increase your motivation by expressing yourself more clearly. By doing the same with those around you, you’ll see another positive effect on motivation by evaluating the performance of others.

8. Take a break.

Your internal motivation will thrive with regular breaks. If you don’t take short breaks, you’ll run out of energy and won’t be able to focus. Whenever you feel stuck on something, stop what you’re doing. Give yourself some time. You can spend this time meditating, you can do a sport that will relax you, or you can reflect on other things that you appreciate in yourself. Breaks are vital for your emotional, physical and mental health, and will increase your productivity and efficiency even more.

9. Enjoy the process (without getting stuck on the results!)

Being able to enjoy the process comes from knowing the value of that process. No matter what action we take, never see the process as an obstacle while moving towards your goal. Try to focus on the process by giving it justice. If you move forward with a process-oriented approach, not a result-oriented one,
saying that it should be over as soon as possible, your motivation will cease to be a necessary trigger and develop completely naturally. If you go directly to the result, you might not even realise the successes you’ve achieved on the way to your goal. If you enjoy the process itself, you’ll pour all of your life energy into it. So try to have fun while doing what you do!

10. Track your progress

Your progress on a job between the start and end is very important. You do the things you love to do every day, all day long because you enjoy doing it. Be sure to check your daily actions and daily successes. You’ll see how you progress there and what makes you passionate about your work. When you see which areas are more successful and increase your motivation, you’ll want to achieve more success. Make a note of the things that excite you and the areas in which you’ve improved - even the areas where you have difficulty but haven’t given up!

Make sure you do one action every day. This will help you determine your next steps. You’ll realise that what you’ve accomplished so far is the result of your actions determined by your values. As your life changes, your inspired journey will evolve towards the path in which you realise yourself.
