Our Life is a Reflection of Our Values

purpose Mar 27, 2022

What do we live for? What do we need to do to add some meaning to our lives? What should be the meaning of our lives? How can we live a more decent and peaceful life, and how do we get there? Such questions have puzzled humans throughout history and have been the subject of philosophy and religion.

So, how can we think about these questions nowadays? Why should we be sensitive about the existence of some values in life? How do these values positively affect our lives? We will answer all these questions for you today.

Hierarchy of Values

Each of us can assign different meanings to similar topics and value them in different ways. One thing can be important for one person, whereas it can be completely irrelevant to another. This is because each person has a set of values, and they are highly important for them. Because each person lives their life according to the hierarchy of values.

Have you ever noticed that people focus on and show more interest in the areas they value? When we value something, we spend more time reading and researching it. We spend more time on it, think more about it, include them more in our lives, and carry them around with us. In short, we give more time, energy, and money to the things we value in our lives.

Focus is essential for success

As a natural consequence of all these, we move faster in areas of life that we value. So, a combination of time, energy, and money equals success.

If you take a closer look at the things you like to do, books you want to read, or places you spend time at, you will surely realise that they serve your values.

Science of values lies at the heart of behavioural science. Areas we are motivated about or focus on are, without a doubt, areas that we value. But areas that we need to force ourselves to spend time on, where we lack internal motivation, discipline, and focus, are areas that we do not value.

Why do we postpone things?

Have you ever wondered why we keep putting certain things off when we are dying to do others? This is all about our values. We are inattentive and disorganised in areas we don’t value – we have difficulty keeping our promises, focus, or motivation. This is a common experience for many of us.

Who lives in a balanced way?

So, who manages to move forward in a balanced way in all areas of life? Who does not postpone, delay, and have the motivation, inspiration, concentration, and discipline they need?

They are the minority who can live in line with their values. If you read my articles, you will come across many titles about living aligned with one’s values. I highly suggest that you examine the details of this topic in those articles.

For many of us, though, a life lived in line with values, with extraordinary inspiration and discipline is not easy to get to. So, what do you need to do if you want to lead a balanced life in line with your values? What are the steps you need to take and the changes you need to make?

Each individual who wants a balanced life needs training on how to do it – they need the support of a mentor to determine their own values and learn methods to align their steps with those values.

What difference does it make to realise our values?

Exploring our values helps us discover our true identity, find our purpose in life and, therefore, play a more active role in the physical world. For example, if you want to reach your highest potential in all areas of life – progressing quickly in your career, becoming an effective leader, increasing your savings, and maintaining your relationships in the best way possible – then you need to fully understand your values. It is highly important and essential to align your behaviours with your values.

By nature, we spend more time on areas we value than others. And here is how we can make the most of this situation: It would be the wisest and the most logical option for us to align our work life, personal life, and action plans with areas of value where we are more focused, disciplined, hardworking and successful. This is the shortest and most fool-proof way to success.

Our lives, achievements and peace are reflections of our values. I sincerely hope that you fully grasp your values and get to enjoy a balanced life that is aligned with them.

Until next time.
