What do adult colouring books do?

“They offer a wonderful way to have a break and bring the joy of art into your everyday life. Colouring is easy ‘me time’ that doesn’t involve anything more than pencils and paper. It's as simple as that – there’s no need for experience. Think back to your childhood days where you would get lost in a world of drawing and colouring. That’s the experience that’s recreated with these adult versions.” – Emma Farrarons, author of The Mindfulness Colouring Book

“The aim of colouring books, drawing or writing are all the same: expressing our emotions and getting free of them. Things grow where the attention flows. We humans are meaning-making machines: we give meaning to everything, especially our emotions. The problem is, the more you try to run away from them, the worse it gets. So, changing where our attention is and doing things that don’t necessarily require much attention, like colouring, help us get free of emotions – such as stress and anxiety – we might be experiencing.” – Nevsha F. Karamehmet, behavioural scientist

Why are they so popular?

“There are many aspects of adult colouring books people like. For one, they are practical and simple to use. You can dip in and out as you like. You can spend as little as five minutes on a page or hours. A pocket-sized series also means you can do it on-the-go. You can even use just one pencil to colour a page by varying the pressure to increase the light and darkness.” – Emma

“Colouring and drawing work especially well in times of stress, anxiety and fear. They are popular because colouring is one of the easiest, quickest ways to relax, calm down and get centred.” – Nevsha

How do they act as a form of meditation?

“People from all walks of life have told me how relaxed they feel when colouring: a friend of mine used it in hospital during her contractions and a Danish archery champion used it to help her focus between each competition. When you pick up a pencil to draw or colour a page, you become present in the moment. You’re concentrating so much on drawing a line, filling in shapes or on the colours, that you think of nothing else. Your mind goes blank and is in a peaceful state. All you hear is the sound of the lead scratching the surface of the paper. That is mindfulness.” – Emma

“Any experience that expands our consciousness can be called meditation. When the mind calms down, the body starts relaxing and we start experiencing different levels of our consciousness, so yes, colouring can be a form of meditation.” – Nevsha

Why is now a good time to get into colouring?

“This period of social distancing is a particularly good time to put wellness front and centre. Give yourself five minutes or more to switch off from digital distractions, the media or the daily grind. Find yourself a comfortable and safe space, sharpen your colouring pencils and give in to the world of colour.”. – Emma

“It releases stress, anxiety, panic and fear. Colouring will take your mind away from today’s reality – or whatever you are watching in the news and on social media – and will help calm you down and get back in the moment.” – Nevsha

What tools do you need?

“Invest in high-quality colouring pencils. Ones which comes from art specialists tend to be more pigmented and creamier, and come in hundreds of shades. Water-based brush pens are also preferable as they can fill in the most intricate patterns. They tend to come in primary, secondary, rich, muted, pastel and neon colours.” – Emma

Is it something you can do with children too, or is it best done alone?

“You can absolutely do this with children. One mum messaged me to explain how she and her little one are enjoying colouring side by side. She has her ‘adult’ colouring book and her daughter has her Peppa Pig version – it’s their special quiet time together. Teenagers have also said they use colouring as a means of relaxation during school exams. And teachers use it to explain mindfulness to their students.” – Emma

“Both. Like any meditation practice, it is something better done alone. It will have a deeper effect if done solo, but can also be practiced as a family game where family members can connect, enjoy the moment and bond together.” – Nevsha

TURKISH BRITISH MAGAZINE: Breathing needs care!

“Your life is the reflection of your mind”

Breathing; For many of us, it's an ordinary, vital movement we do unconsciously. However, recent studies are showing that; breathing is a science subject. Breath expert Nevşah Fidan Karamehmet works on “Breathing Science”, which has become a multidisciplinary field, to take its place as a department in universities.

Breath Coaching Federation’s Founding President Nevşah Karamehmet who brought Breath Coaching systems to Turkey, and turned it into a profession, is making efforts to promote breathing science globally.

Karamehmet highlights, Breath Coaching, as practiced in Turkey generates a portion of one percent of the breathing science, "Breath science; a multidisciplinary system where behavioral science and respiratory science combine. Breathe coaching is a very small part of it. ”

In Turkey and in the United States, Karamehmet still presided Breathe Coaching Federation, at the same time she is a member of the Behavioral Sciences University in America which has the only Breathing Science Faculty in the world. Karamehmet, who is also the vice president of the university for England, Europe and the Middle East, is an important teacher who has inspired more than 100,000 people, trained tens of thousands of people so far. She is the founding president of NEVSAH INSTITUTE, which has been operating for 18 years and has offices in New York, London and Istanbul. The Nevsah Institute syllabus includes dozens of different trainings so that people can achieve to their full capacity and live extraordinary lives.

Nevşah Fidan Karamehmet's saying "I have a clear vision" aims an academy that will serve humanity and new generations and a university establishment project in London.

“We will raise masters”

The aim of the faculty will be established in London is to train masters who will serve humanity for the next 500 years.

“ Nevşah F. Karamehmet stated that all the certificate programs and trainings that will be carried out in NEVSAH INSTITUTE will be included within the scope of the academy and university, which will be a SCHOOL of WISDOM, that everyone will contact with their highest consciousness and will both experience their own awakening and trigger the awakening of

millions of people. A school, where real masters will come out, states that it will have the capacity to change the consciousness of the whole world.

Describing the 21st century as a period in which people are in contact with their highest capacity, in a way godlike, and in the way of realizing ones highest posibilities, Karamehmet said, “At the moment, many people in the world want to reach the highest level of their capacity, realize their full potential, find the purpose of life and serve humanity with important projects. In order for this to happen, a school embellished with genuine teachings and genuine teachers are needed. NEVSAH INSTITUTE is this school. Our goal is for every individual participating in our school and education to experience the maximum capacity and have an extraordinary life experience. This is possible and we have all the tools to make it possible. Our only goal now is to bring our school and syllabus to larger masses. For this to happen, we need to train masters, genuine teachers and masters. ”

“ We are still healing after the war ”

Karamehmet“ 21. century is a period when the majority broke off from their truth, essence, true identity, purpose of life, live with dogmas, patterns, and therefore a great spiritual search began. It is for this reason that diseases, stress, violence and fears increase. The people who are not aligned with their self-existence and who do not live in accordance with their eigenvalues are either getting sick or getting angry, getting aggressive, ”and explains the period we are in with these words:

“ I have worked with 29943 people so far, most demanded MIRACLE COURSE training has been organized in 38 different cities in the world for 18 years, carrying my signature, which 12043 people attended. I have not seen that even a single person living according to his eigenvalues In connection with his/her own being, can stay sick, nervous, aggressive and combative. Behind all the problems we have in life is lying "not being ourselves". NEVSAH INSTITUTE is exactly there to solve this problem of humanity.

We are a generation out of war. The war years are not very old. With the effect of the war, humanity has been detached from itself and its essence. We come from the times when many people struggle to spend time with their own truth, not that the collapsed systems have to be rebuilt. Therefore, our genes still have protection, defense, panic and fear, and these emotions prevent us from being ourselves. EVERYONE NEEDS HEALING. The period is such a period.

NEVSAH INSTITUTE syllabus is a school that supports our students in their journey to become themselves freely and enables them to reach their peak capacity.

Once one connects with the eternity of the essence of ones being, the endless existence, the existence itself, his/her full and infinite potential, his/her life can never be the same again.

Because everything changes completely, everything materially and spiritually multiplies a hundred times. ”

“We work with consciousness in NEVSAH INSTITUTE ”

“Few people can go beyond the visible world reality and connect with truth, but when they did their lives will change forever ”. Karamehmet, defines the truth as the reality we experience living in this world, beyond its three dimension. Referring to Yunus Emre's saying “I have a me inside”, Karamehmet says; It is a blessing reaching to the one beyond the object, beyond the one which is mortal but there are very few people who can achieve it.

Karamehmet says that with the studies, the emotional and mental polarity created by a persons own mind has been removed from there and the meaning he/she has put into life is eliminates and adds: “With the work we do, the person becomes conscious and awakened. It is necessary to work with the breath and the way of thinking because the removal of polarity within consciousness and the functionality in breath, in fact, is the same thing. That's why we work hard with consciousness as well while working with breath. Each training in our syllabus is the continuation and complementary of another. The spiritual journeys of the people are also completes who have finished it all. ”

Stay with yourself 20 minutes in the morning and evening!

Emphasizing that people will value their own existence more in the coming periods as life is accelerating, Karamehmet continues:

“Meditation has an important role in the NEVSAH INSTITUTE syllabus. In the future, people will understand the importance of this more. I care very much about one staying with oneself. It's called meditation, but we don't have to say meditation. We can say a human just staying alone with him/herself without doing anything. Morning and evening sitting without doing anything. Without interfering with thoughts, feelings; sitting without trying to change any of your moods. Actually, self-confrontation. In such a fast world, if a person does not have a minimum of 20 minutes of confrontation with him/herself during the day he/she can lose physical health, mental health, get upside down emotionally. World is living with this now.

“Meditation will be like, brushing teeth”

Nevşah Karamehmet said, “Every person needs time to be alone with himself or herself,” Nevşah Karamehmet said. She points out thats why meditation is spreading at an incredible speed all over the world. Karamehmet believes that meditation will be like brushing teeth in the future . When you don't brush your teeth, your teeth rot, and when we don't meditate regularly, the brain goes. New generations will realize this and will remain alone with themselves more often. Thus, I see that healthier consciousnesses and brains will grow.

Currently, meditation in the world is most common in Los Angeles and Silicon Valley. Where technology is the most intense. This shows also how high the consciousness is here, ”she says.

“The more problems in your life, the more problems you have in your mind.”

Karamehmet stated that the negative thoughts and unenlightened consciousness that are not corrected in the human mind are also reflected negatively on the lives of people, and that the most determining factor in getting support is the person's own life. Karamehmet continues to explain the effects of problems in the unenlightened mind on life:

“It has been said for centuries, but I would like to say once again, the world is the mirror of consciousness. However our mindset is our life is its reflection.”

Your Life is a reflection of your thinking structure and mind.

Therefore, by looking at his/her life, he/she can understand whether there is a problem in his consciousness, whether he/she needs healing or enlightenment. THE PROBLEMS IN OUR LIFE ARE THE SIGNES OF OUR WRONG CHOICE IN CONCIOUSNESS. So that means; An enlightened consciousness progresses in all areas of life. Metarially and spiritually. Many people now think that 'enlightenment' is realizing that the world is an illusion and going beyond it, so that they do not need to give importance to what is happening in the world. On the contrary, if you have really gone beyond the world and the world has lost its meaning, you will take control of it and make it do whatever you want. You cannot have any material or spiritual problems.

If consciousness is awakened, life on earth, turns into paradise.

The more problems a person has in his life, for example; The more she/he cannot progress in each of the 7-8 areas of life, the more problem she/he has in his/her mind. If She/he is progressing materially and spiritually, it means that his/her consciousness is also progressing. Every person should look at their physical body, how healthy they are, how rich they are, social life, relationships, family, living environment, how much they want... ”

In such a fast world, If there is no time to face with oneself a minimum of 20 minutes morning and evening; one loses physical health, becomes emotionally upside down and the world is living this now. ”

"The world is actually a mirror of consciousness. However your thinking structure is your life is a fiction accordingly. Your life is a reflection of your thinking structure and mind."

Each training in our syllabus is the continuation and complementary of another. The spiritual journeys of the people are also complete who have finished it all.

FORBES: How To Change Your Life With Breathing

You were stressed, then you practiced a breathing technique, you controlled and manipulated your breath and now you feel great! Congratulations! You just messed up your whole respiratory system!

Addition to my entrepreneurial journey in enterprise technology, I’m a breath coach as well, and I deeply know how breathing changes people lives. To enlighten people all around the world, I interview with Nevsah Fidan Karamehmet who has many titles as the Founder President of Breath Coaching Federation and NFS School of Life, an entrepreneur, a businesswoman, a certified breath analyst, faculty member of The Graduate School of Breathing Sciences and Better Physiology. She in love with the power of natural breath 20 years ago and have trained more than 100.000 people around the world says ‘’Using the breath to manipulate our psychology may do us more harm than good.’’

Can you please explain how and why breathing techniques can be harmful?

Nevsah: Breath and respiration are two different aspects. I think this is the main area we as breath workers and breath coaches have to look at.

Breathing is habitual. It can be manipulated, learned, unlearned and relearned. It can be triggered and it has a history. Even though we all have perfect natural breathing when we were born, we learn to manipulate our breathing for different reasons. One of the main reasons we learn to manipulate our breathing is because our breathing can change how we feel. We can totally disconnect from ourselves, the world, our emotions, how we really feel and create an alternative way of being. That’s why many people say ‘dysfunctional breathing habits are actually stating dependency’. We learn to change our psychology by changing our breathing. We manipulate our breathing to feel good, to be more positive, to be more effective, to create an alternative self who is maybe centered and never gets upset or always happy. We actually find ways to disconnect from our humanity, our nature by disconnecting from our natural breath. And if not, people learn all kinds of breathing techniques to do that.

But have you ever asked yourself; ‘’How does breathing technique affect your health?’’ It sure affects your psychology in a ‘good way’ or ‘the way you wanted’. But how did it affect your health? Really! Because our respiration regulates our body ph. And our breathing affects our respiration. Every time we breathe, our respiratory chemistry gets affected, in a good way or a bad way. I think practicing a breathing technique without checking its effects on the respiratory system is lethal. It is not only dangerous but maybe the reason for many symptoms we experience.

I see why Breath Coaching is a very different approach. Can you explain what breath coaching system is and how do you work with breathing habits?

Nevsah: At the Breath Coaching Federation, we work with the dysfunctional breathing habits instead of teaching prescriptive breathing techniques. If you are experiencing symptoms such as having memory problems, focusing or emotional problems because of your breathing habits, you can get rid of the symptom with applying breathing technique. But we don't work on the dysfunctional habit itself, which is the cause of the problem. The symptom will always be there and you will be addicted to that breathing technique and many people are. I know some people who manipulate their phycology by using techniques and they tell me they feel great and positive and calm. And yet they are experiencing all kinds of symptoms like headaches when they are stressed, focus problems when they are tired and breathing problems while doing sports, etc. Because they do not focus on the cause!

That is all why breath coaching is a revolutionary approach to not only breathwork but also to all health practices. By working with basic behavioral analysis rules and analyzing the dysfunctional breathing habits, we can literally see when, where and how the breathing habit gets triggered and get rid of it. So the next time you are stressed, because you will not have a dysfunctional breathing habit that keeps you hypocapnic and lowers the PaCO2 levels in your lungs and you will not have a headache because you will have more O2 in your blood, in your cells and most importantly in your brain!

I’m sure you did lots of research on breathing habits. Can you explain more?

Nevsah: I cannot believe how many people are out there having all kinds of symptoms because they are breathing dysfunctionally. And the symptoms get cured instead of looking at the cause.

I have been analyzing people’s breathing habits on the mechanic level, as well as on the respiratory level for a long time. What I found out is that our breathing can be manipulated, changed, learned, relearned and it is totally habitual. Whereas respiration happens by itself and it’s a brainstem reflex. It is reflexive. When we don't interfere with our respiration and we don't manipulate our breathing, our body knows the best and our respiration system works perfectly regulating our ph levels which affect our health at all levels. When we have balanced ph levels, negative emotions and past traumas do not get triggered. When we have a functional breathing habit and we are not manipulating our breath, we have enough O2 in our blood, in our tissues and we are much more healthy.

Our psychological, physical, mental and spiritual health depends on our breathing. So when we have the perfect, natural breath we can be healthy and happy and fulfilled on every level.

In the era of mindfulness and related apps, breath is the core figure of the industry and defining and using the breath in our daily lives is changing our lives directly by positively or negatively. I believe its impact will be seen in the coming term more rigidly.

POSITIVE HEALTH: Benefits of Breath Analysis and Breath Coaching

Breath Coaching is a highly evolved and revolutionary approach to all breathwork. How? Because over the years, scientists who have invested a great deal of research into breath, have discovered that working solely on breath at the mechanical level, rather than the mechanical, physiological and psychological components, is extremely misleading and can, in fact, lead to enhanced health problems.

Anyone who has endeavoured to use breathing techniques as a tool for healthy living has undoubtedly done so with the best of intentions: they want to be healthy, feel good, think positive, enhance their awareness, and create a life filled with happiness, tranquility and fulfilment. Breath is the right path to follow, and yet, many people are being misled into believing that using these generalised techniques is the way to achieve holistic health. In fact, by following these rigid and generic techniques, people are at great risk of inflicting real and lasting damage on their respiratory system as they are failing to manipulate their breathing in an efficient and sustainable way.

There are many misconceptions about breathing, of course, which have, for decades, consumed the time and thought of people interested in natural and holistic health. The most common misconception results from breath trainers who claim that “deep breathing is good” and encourage people to “take a deep breath”. Whilst in some cases deep breathing does work for individuals, for many others, deep breathing can lead to Hypocapnia, a serious deficiency of CO2 in the respiratory system leading to chemical imbalances in the body and the mind. Once locked into this state of hypocapnia, it is extremely difficult to break out, because both our dysfunctional breathing habits and the constant reassertion of the belief that breathing deeply is good, traps us physically and mentally into a closed state of breath, and mind.

How do I know about it? Because I have had the privilege to help people with breath analysis for over twenty years; analysing thousands of individuals and identifying their unique dysfunctional breathing habit with state-of-the-art technology; working with leading international researchers to gain an integrated understanding of the physical, chemical, and spiritual components of breath; and speaking with individuals about their own, very personal journeys to emotional fulfilment. What I have learned from my Miracle Course workshops is that the ‘enlightening moment’ that people experience during the session - when they first feel a “shift in awareness” and “spiritual awakening” - is, in fact, the moment the coaches have trained them up to the point of natural breath and out of hypocapnia.

I have had first-hand experience of all common breathing techniques, being a transformational breath facilitator and trainer for many years; I have experienced yogic breathing, breath therapy, rebirthing and holotropic breathing. People love these methods because they can experience all kinds of spiritual awakenings. Yet no one has ever been able to answer my question, “what is happening to my respiratory side?”. This eureka moment, the unexplained gap in breath teaching was the trigger for myself and a group of scientists to research this unknown aspect of breath: the result of our findings was the creation of the groundbreaking ‘Breath Coaching System’.

While your breathing habit may “look good” at the mechanical level, there may, nonetheless, be serious underlying problems at the respiratory level. What we have discovered is that, if you do not align your breathing at the mechanical level with its performance at a respiratory level, there is a serious risk that your health could deteriorate. That is why we developed the ‘Breath Coaching System’, in order to analyse individual breathing habits and assess the potential misalignment of people’s mechanical breathing and their respiratory chemistry. We have uniquely combined respiratory science with behavioural science, coaching and breathwork: we use this to analyse your distinct dysfunctional breathing habits and work with you intensively over the period of a week to correct any deficiencies or impairments.

This is the key gap that breath workers have failed to acknowledge before. So, we have targeted these experts, in particular, to assess how their breath techniques were impacting on their own general health. When we spoke with these breath workers and monitored them over a period of time, we found that everyone claimed to feel great and were experiencing intense levels of love and psychological awakening; and yet, when asked about their physical health, they responded saying that they had gained weight over the years of breathwork, but that it was due to influences outside of breath. What our analysts discovered, was that the breath workers were getting themselves into a hypocapnic state, which had triggered other degenerative health symptoms. Following their bouts of hypocapnia, these breath workers found they needed to eat more and rest more, nor were they as active as those who had managed to align their breath to their respiratory side. After working on their dysfunctional breathing habits, their misconceptions about breathing were realized; they felt healthier and more comfortable about expressing their emotions; and, after a period of time, they began to shed the weight they had put on over the years. They felt as though they had connected their enlightened spiritual side with their human side: this, as a principle to health, is of paramount importance.

The approach that must be made when using breath as a tool for better health and wellbeing, and the solution to dysfunctional breathing, is to re-connect and align your spiritual and physical health, rather than treating each as a separate and disconnected entity. Failing to learn this basic lesson means it is impossible to achieve the holistic health that we all need, and deserve, to ensure emotional fulfilment and the chance to achieve everything that we deserve from life.

Thrive Global: How Do /You/ Meditate?

Clay Hamilton interviews Nevşah Karamehmet, meditation teacher, breath coach and author. "How Do /You/ Meditate?" is Clay Hamilton's ongoing series of interviews with meditation teachers.

Nevsah Karamehmet is a meditation teacher, breath coach and founding president of the Breath Coaching Federation, as well as an author, educator and speaker. She is a certified 1 Giant Mind meditation teacher and co-creator of the Breath Coaching system, and she teaches a multidisciplinary technique which combines breath work, breathing therapy, meditation, respiratory science, behavioural science and coaching. Clay Hamilton interviewed Nevsah in the summer of 2019.

o o o

Briefly describe yourself as a meditation teacher.

I am a certified One Giant Mind Meditation Teacher, part of a very sweet group of popular meditation teachers around the world. I live and teach meditation groups mostly in London, but I travel and teach in more than 20 cities around the world (New York, LA, Istanbul, Zurich, Antwerp, Baku and many more). I also lead online meditation courses every 2 months for my students in Turkey.

How did you first learn to meditate and why/how did you become a meditation teacher?

I started meditating 20 years ago when I got my training as a yoga teacher from The Vivekananda University in India. I was practicing and teaching yoga and breath therapy as well as meditation in those days. Then I got more interested in breath, so I got breath work training from different schools and created my own system. I am the founding president of the Breath Coaching Federation, which leads and trains thousands of breath coaches globally. I am the co-creator of Breath Coaching System which is a multidisciplinary system, a combination of breath work, breathing therapy, meditation, respiratory science, behavioural science and coaching.

After 20 years of practicing and teaching meditation I absolutely loved the simplicity and effect of One Giant Mind Meditation, so got certified and I started teaching that as well.

What types of meditations have you studied or practised, and what method do you mainly use or teach now?

I have practiced TM, other mantra meditations, vipassana, focusing meditations and have been using breath as a “being” meditation technique for many years. Even though I practice many different meditation techniques, I suggest that my students start with a BEING meditation technique because without connecting to your BEING, it is almost impossible to meditate comfortably. Many people have a hard time meditating because they do not know how to leave their HUMAN self behind and connect with their BEING. I believe being is the core of meditation. That is why I have been using breath a way to connect people to their being and am using the One Giant Mind Meditation method, because they both support my students to connect with their being. That is the way to go.

What is the greatest benefit you personally get from meditation?

I would say CLARITY. We live in a wild world. Our daily lives are packed with meetings, appointments, projects, to do lists, and if you are a business women like me with four companies, books, lectures, training courses, on top of that if you have family and kids to take care of it gets really, really wild. I don’t know how I could manage my life if I did not meditate. I am so happy that after years of working on my breathing habits, with a functional breath and mind my life is very simple even if it is packed with all of these, because I do not hesitate, think twice, have different ideas about different situations. BEING CLEAR has helped me with everything. It does not take me hours to decide on something because I am clear about what I want and where life is leading me. Life is very easy when you are clear. All seems to fall into place and I just flow with it. That is what I call REAL LUXURY! Of course health, a shining skin, looking great, feeling great, the ability to take responsibilities and the creative energy that comes with meditation is always a plus. I have been very clear, creative, positive, full of energy, thanks to my functional breathing habit and daily meditations.

Is it more useful for people to know many meditation techniques, or to learn one/few and focus efforts on practising that one?

I think it depends on which stage you are in. If you are a beginner, and most of my students are, BEING MEDITATION techniques are good for you. If you are more advanced, you can try FOCUSING MEDITATION techniques or WITNESSING techniques. Many people go into mindfulness practices of witnessing techniques without building a consciousness around their being and then they say ‘’I cannot meditate’’. Of course you cannot. You first need to connect with your BEING in order to go into meditation. Witnessing would always be the next step. I made the mistake of going to a vipassana course 20 years ago, without connecting with my BEING on a deeper level and it was a disaster! It was really tough. I was able go through the whole process but I do not suggest that to anyone. Vipassana should be the last thing you try, maybe after 5 years of disciplined meditation practice.

What do most students struggle with or get wrong?

Most people think meditating is about stopping the mind or relaxation. It is not. It is only about PRACTICING EFFORTLESSNESS. It is all about letting go, surrendering to what is, and not trying to change anything. That can be done with BEING practices. I have come to realise that learning to breathe more functionally, learning to let go in your breathing habit helps and accelerates the connection with our being. That is why I work on people’s dysfunctional breathing habits and help them to learn EFFORTLESSNESS in their breathing first, then lead them into meditation. If you cannot let go and JUST BE as you are, if you are fighting with life and who you are (your BEING), you cannot meditate.

How many times and how much time per day do you recommend students to meditate?

I recommend 20 minutes in the morning before breakfast, coffee or exercise, and 20 minutes in the evening before dinner, alcohol or sleep. Evening meditations should not be very close to sleep time though.

What misconceptions about meditation do you hear in the media or popular culture?

I see that there is a whole misconception about what positive energy is. That leads to misconceptions about meditation as well. Positivity does not mean being happy and energetic or having fun all the time. It means being able to accept who you are and not fighting with yourself even in painful times and when you experience dark emotions. You cannot meditate if you are trying to run away from yourself. You cannot go into deep relaxation if you are trying to be happy, calm, and relaxed all the time. Meditation is not about relaxation, it’s about working on your ability to accept who you are and just be, be where you are. It is not about trying to create an alternative self which is more relaxed or positive, it is about not trying to change at all. It is about acceptance, love, being, it is not about achievement.

What advice do you give people who struggle to maintain a consistent practice?

I advise breath coaching. We need functional, natural breathing to go deep into our being. If we don’t have that, we struggle a lot. So I suggest for anyone who is interested in going deep into meditation to go onto the Breath Coaching Federation web site and schedule a private breath session. If you cannot do that, I suggest that you have the willingness to experience all emotions, pain, sorrow, even tears during a meditation practice, that’s the only way you can meditate easily. As I said before, if you cannot accept your human self with everything you have, you cannot meditate. Acceptance is the key to meditation. Learning to sit with whatever is going on with ourselves, that intention makes the whole difference.

What meditation books have you read and admired, re-read, or do you recommend to others (they can be directly or indirectly related to meditation)?

I recommend Light Watkins’s books, for instance “Bliss More” and “The Inner Gym,” he is a great meditation teacher. I admire all Vedic meditation books, Vedic meditation methods are the real practice.

What books/courses/resources do you have available? What makes them special and how can they benefit a reader?

I lead Introductions every week in Richmond, London and I give 3-day meditation courses every two months. I have weekly retreats on the coast of Turkey at a very special resort every two months where we work on dysfunctional breathing and thinking habits. People who finish those courses and who come to my retreats can easily make meditation a habit and keep on meditating every day. After all the emotional, mental and spiritual release, they all finish the course or the week-long retreat in full silence.

I have 9 books, mostly about breathing, healing and meditation. People can reach me from my website, www.nevsah.com, learn about my courses, go to my youtube account and watch my videos. My commitment to meditation and silence makes the whole difference. When you meditate with a teacher, the energy of the teacher is all that matters. I am a teacher who has been meditating for 20 years and who has a functional breathing habit, who can go directly into deep silence and carry her students there, and I think that makes a difference. So if you meditate with me or come to one of my courses in London, you will for sure have a deep, healing meditation experience. What makes me unique is also my knowledge on breathing, behavioural science and coaching. I know what it takes to connect with our being and silence and how to get there as fast as possible. If you work on your breathing with the breath coaching system, you will go deep into silence every time you close your eyes, whereas if you don’t you will have a hard time in the beginning. I teach functional breathing, work on people’s dysfunctional breathing habits that keep them from meditating and healing, and get amazing results.

My next book, “Awakening”, is scheduled for release in August 2019. It is about awakening and staying awake in your daily life—every day, every moment, and every situation. It is about acceptance and being a real human being.

WELUM: WORLD SPIRITUAL LEADER / meet nevsah - a wellness and health guru

Meet Nevsah, a recognized authority on emotional and physical healing through breathing, a  Wellness and Health Guru, a  World Spiritual leader, a researcher, a bestselling author, a global educator, a speaker and a faculty member in different schools around the world,  founder of 5 companies, she has inspired more than 100,000 people in her lectures, workshops, seminars, and private tutorials.

Who is NEVSAH? define yourself

I am a spiritual leader committed to enlightening people, I am an internationally renowned breath expert, a meditation teacher, a well-known author of 9 best seller books, a mother and a wife. I was born in Izmir March 17th, 1975, graduated from Izmir American High School, Yildiz University as an architect and created my own educational company working on behavioral habits, breathing and thinking habits in 2004.

I have led more than 10.000 people in her trainings, I have influenced more than 100.000 people with my lectures and systems I have created,  I have trained more than 1000 breath coaches around the world.  I have  5 companies around the world. I am leading self-mastery courses globally living in London, Istanbul and New York.

Tell us more about your family, How was  NEVSAH as a kid?

NEVSAH was always a very much CONSCIOUS KID which means, she was always connected with who she was and was always aware. She was a free soul, free of all the meaning-making mechanism of the ego self. Her family especially her mother was extra caring for her. I guess everyone around me saw me as a spiritual teacher and was transforming just being around me, I did not have the courage to admit that.

I thought I was pushing people’s buttons all the time but what was actually happening was transformation. With my ability to see the truth beyond illusion and people’ meanings, I would free people around me when they got stuck to ‘things’ because I did not give meaning to those ‘things.’ It took me some time to realize that I was a natural born spiritual leader, admit that and own that. I had to have many astrology sessions, mentoring, human design analysis, work on my dysfunctional breathing habits, etc.

You are from Turkey, you studied there Architectural Design at Yıldız Technical University, why did you study that?

I was very much conditioned when I was a young girl. I was trying to go from a path that ‘seemed right’ instead of my own path, what ‘felt right’. Even though I was always interested in people, psychology, human behaviors, I wanted to study architecture because my mother was an architecture and I thought that was something wise to do.

I did learn many things though. I think building a system where more than 500 breath coaches work hand in hand globally needed that architectural ability and I got that.

"With a powerful tool like breathing, you connect with everything you are and everything that is meant to happen starts happening. That is what happened to me as well. The more functional I was breathing the more my abilities were seen"

You got certified as a yoga and breath therapist, certified as a Transformational Breath Facilitator and Trainer, you got also your Coaching Certification and  Rebirthing Certification as well. You are certified as a breath and behavior analyst from Applied Breathing Sciences from the Graduate School of Breathing Sciences.

Full Circle of Alternative Therapies, and earned a  Behavioral Biofeedback Certificate from the Graduate School of Breathing Sciences in 2018.  How did you jump from studying design to become a  spiritual leader with all those certifications?

I actually did not become a spiritual leader, I just am. It's in my astrology, numerology, human design map, everything I did, talked about was already transforming people spiritually, I just did not realize that until I started teaching breathing.

With a powerful tool like breathing, you connect with everything you are and everything that is meant to happen starts happening. That is what happened to me as well. The more functional I was breathing the more my abilities were seen. Thousands of people started coming to my courses, listening to my lectures, following me on social media.

I only had to express my truth and that was it. My books were best sellers, thousands of people were enjoying my teachings and since I was a breath expert, I was able to connect them with their truth, which was the perfect scenario, already planned by the universe. I believe I became a spiritual leader which I already was, the moment I started letting go, surrendering and accepting who I am.

You founded the Breath Coaching Federation in Turkey in 2016,  what did it drive you to do that? Tell us more about what´s  BREATH COACHING and what are the benefits?

I am very motivated by seeing people GET IT. The most important thing in my life is seeing people got what I got. It's easy to say ‘this world is an illusion’ but when it comes to freeing people from the ego self, there are so many things they are holding on to, its though without a powerful tool. And I have the most powerful tool because I know where people get stuck in their ego. In their breathing.

People get stuck in the world because of dysfunctional breathing habits, so the moment they learn new, functional breathing habits they can fully let go, surrender, go beyond the ego, the world and enlighten. That is what I love to do and see happen.

I love seeing people EXPAND THEIR CONSCIOUSNESS BEYOND LEVELS THEY CANNOT EVEN IMAGINE. I love seeing people go beyond the illusion and get it fully. I love seeing people create real miracles in their lives and that’s what I teach. And for people to get it, they need healthy breathing habits. Of course, there are many other benefits. There are more than 200 symptoms caused by, triggered by, perpetuated by dysfunctional breathing habits. I have worked with amazing people in 15 years. Some of them healed cancer, migraines, panic attack, attention deficit problems, asthma.

I have literally seen hundreds of symptoms disappear when people start breathing functional. And the best part is that you can always stay balanced, calm, peaceful when you have functional breathing habits. Breath Coaching, working with a good breath analysis can create miracles in your physiology and psychology. And on top of that, if you have a naturally gifted spiritual leader, there is nothing, really nothing a person cannot create. That's what I focus on.

For the people who don´t know, what are the Differences Between Breath Coaching And Breath work techniques?

I breath coaching we analyze people’s dysfunctional breathing habits and support them overcome them and learn healthier, functional breathing habits. We don’t teach or use a specific technique. We analyze breathing habits and support people to practice the exact opposite of what they learned as a habit. If the person is breathing too fast, we ask them to breathe slow, if they breathe too slow, we ask them to breathe fast.

We analyze what they do and practice what they cannot. That way we align the breathing habits and respiratory physiology, which means EVERYTHING for the body. We cannot have optimal health without having a healthy breathing habit because respiration is very important for our health. So instead of teaching specific techniques, breath coaches concentrate on what you need and support you learn that.

In this point, you are focused on optimal breathing for improving health and performance of the people, you have developed courses and professional training that expands human consciousness, how did you discover that dysfunctional breathing habits can trigger dysfunctional thinking habits and how to get rid of them?

I have worked a lot on my own breathing. If I still had dysfunctional breathing, there was no way I could do what I am doing today. I have created a global business out of what I love. Being the founding president of 4 companies in 4 different cities globally, the FASTEST GROWING BREATH AND SPIRITUAL SCHOOL IN THE WORLD, I had to have a functional breathing habit and functional thinking habits.

I work with more than 500 breath coaches, travel, teach, do lectures most of the time, as well as create new projects, write books and I am a mother of 2 beautiful daughters, wife of a very powerful man. I would not be able to manage a life like mine without functional breathing habits. I learned a lot by working on myself, by the trainings I got but much more thorough research. I sometimes read 4 to 5 books a week.

I am a compulsive researcher and reader. I know more about dysfunctional breathing and thinking habits and how to change them, more than anyone else in the world. I read more than 1000 books, finished more than 200 training programs and I literally educated myself on what was not there as a graduate programmed. And here I am creating a whole new business with my expertise.

How has this breath coaching changed the life of your clients and people who have attended your events?

Breath Coaching is the system I created by the help of my team in 15 years with all my trainings, expertise, research. Working on this system and creating what I created has changed my life. Bringing my natural spiritual gifts and combining it with science made an amazing impact and I this is just a start. I believe we will do some amazing things in the next 10 years.

You are wellness and health guru, a  world spiritual leader, a researcher, you have written 9 bestselling books, a global educator, a speaker and faculty member in different schools around the world. What is the recipe for your success?

DEDICATION. I dedicated my life to expanding human consciousness. My whole life is about empowering, enlightening and healing people. That is the recipe.

"I believe trying to be positive all the time, loving, happy, at peace all the time, is the main reason people get sick , how can a person stay healthy when they do not accept one part of themselves? "

In your experience, what are the things that inhibit human beings to become happy and full? how can we change that reality?

BEING WHOLE. Being a real human, not running away from emotions, not creating good or bad but accepting life as it is, seeing the perfection of all. I think positivity was the worst idea humankind ever had. Because I believe ‘’trying to be positive all the time, loving, happy, at peace all the time, is the main reason people get sick.’’ How can a person stay healthy when they do not accept one part of themselves?

How can a person ever be happy and fulfilled when they are trying to reach something they never can? LAW OF POLARITY is a universal law. And humans live in the universe. A human cannot be ‘just happy’ all the time. Sadness is part of happiness like hate is part of love on earth. People trying to love and be nice to each other are the reason for all this war and death in the world. It is so sad for me to watch this unaware, fake awareness act going on, around ‘let's be positive’.

These people don’t know what they are talking about, creating illness, drug addiction, negativity by ‘trying not to be negative.’ Positive people are the reason the world has negativity. That is why I teach the TRUTH. Neither positivity or any kind of insane concept. Only the truth. I support people to become REAL PEOPLE. I support people to accept themselves and see THERE IS NO DARK OR LIGHT. THERE IS NO EVIL OR GOOD- UNLESS YOU SAY SO…

How is your day-to-day?

I have a bit of a morning ritual. I drink my coffee, exercise a little, meditate, sit down and create what I need to create for that day. I usually write, create, work on my computer in the mornings cause I think that’s when I can be more focused. If I have training that day, I start around 10 am which gives me a lot of ties to meditate and ready. I have my meetings, interviews, in the afternoon.

Do you have any particular philosophy that guides your career decisions?

MY INTUITION. My intuition is always my best guide. It can never go wrong. When I listen to my intuition I either learn a big lesson or I am very successful.

What do you love most about your job as breath coach? & what is the most difficult part?

I love training breath coaches, I love leading and mentoring breath coaches around the world, I love the whole management, responsibility as being the main expert of trainings. I love leading people, seeing them get enlightened and get free of their stories.

I love when people are face to face with themselves and when they are empowered to become something extraordinary. All humans have extraordinary abilities but most don’t use them. I love supporting people to become extraordinary beings!

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as a coach?

I have TO DO LISTS and I finish those lists.

"Take risks and think to yourself : What is the worst thing that can happen? what is that happened now? what would I do about it?’ and be ready for everything"

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else does?

To take risks. Take risks. And think to yourself ‘what is the worst thing that can happen? What does that happen now? What would I do about it?’ and be ready for everything.

You have a husband and 2 daughters, How do you balance your personal and professional life?

Having a functional breathing habit, coaching, mentoring, leading thousands of people made me a highly aware person. And BALANCE IS ALL ABOUT AWARENESS. IF YOU ARE AWARE AND AWAKE, YOU STAY HEALTHY, FIT, YOUR RELATIONSHIPS, LIFE, EVERYTHING IS BALANCED.

People lose their balance because they lose their awareness. A person who is fully awake cannot lose balance, that’s how I see it and that’s what I teach.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

You will probably laugh at this but I like working in my spare time. My work does not feel like work. I do what I love and I love what I do. There is nothing in the world I would rather do so I work…

What are your plans for this 2019?

We are building an amazing system in London right now, which will lead to many global projects. By the end of 2019, we are planning to have a successful franchise system. We are working on a documentary right now, will probably be ready in a year. I have breath coaching certificate programs, lectures, other trainings as well.

There is still the glass roof for women in the world: Fewer opportunities, jobs underpaid just for that fact of being a woman, etc. Have you experimented the glass ceiling? if yes, what are the biggest challenges you have faced and how have you overcome them?

No, I haven’t. I actually feel more respected because I am a woman who created a big business maybe only a man could do.

"I think when you align your business with your abilities you cannot fail. REAL SUCCESS COMES FROM YOUR UNIQUENESS. When you honor your uniqueness success will come by itself because there are words you can only say and things you can only do "

What tips can you give to young girls who want to work in the wellness sector as you?

My tip for everyone would be finding what they love, finding the business that is aligned by who they are. I think when you align your business with your abilities you cannot fail. REAL SUCCESS COMES FROM YOUR UNIQUENESS. When you honor your uniqueness success will come by itself because there are words you can only say and things you can only do. Find that. Go after that and leave everything else.

If I stayed as an architect, I would probably be an ordinary architect. Just because I aligned my business who I already am, I created an extraordinary life and business. That’s the key.

I think in your position, many people may have the wrong idea of who you really are (personally),  and what do you (professionally),  with this the idea in mind, what is being NEVSAH and what's not?

In my case, they are the same. NEVSAH is a spiritual teacher in her life and business.

Who is the woman you admire the most and why?

Oprah because she is free to be herself. I adore that.

Authority Magazine: 'You literally have to become the book' to write a bestseller, an interview with authors Sara Connell & Nevsah Fidan Karamehmet

You literally have to become the book. Live in it, be it, for it to be successful. You have to work as hard as you can and concentrate as if that book was a life and death issue. You cannot be a part time writer. You are either a full time writer while writing your book or not.

As part of my series on the “5 Things You Need To Know To Write a Bestselling Book,” I had the pleasure of interviewing Nevsah Fidan Karamehmet.

Nevsah is a recognized authority, who combines science and spirituality for physical, emotional, mental development and for enhancing psychological well-being. She is a pioneer in helping people learn functional breathing habits and a motivational speaker on the subject of consciousness and breathing. She teaches about staying in the “now” through breathing, in her Miracle Courses.

As a best-selling author, a faculty member of the Graduate School of Behavioral Health Sciences, a consultant to Better Physiology, Ltd., the Founding President of the Breath Coaching Federation, and the national representative of International Breathwork Foundation, Nevsah has won numerous awards in her field and has been an inspiration to millions. She is a recognized authority on emotional and physical healing through breathing. She has been working on breath for 20 years, established breath coaching as a profession in Turkey, trained thousands of people from around the world in breath coaching, and has inspired more than 100,000 people in her lectures, workshops, seminars, and private tutorials to learn breathing for improving their health and performance.

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you share a story about what brought you to this particular career path?

I have been leading seminars, giving lectures and doing workshops on ‘how to change your breathing habits and change your whole life’ for more than 15 years all around the world.

I have worked with amazing people who literally changed their whole lives when they got more conscious about how they breathe, how they think and how they behave, with the methodology I taught them.

I wanted to share my knowledge and experience on my path in my books so I started writing. I first wrote about the methods I teach, then the spiritual knowledge behind it all.

What was (so far) the most exhilarating or fulfilling experience you’ve had as an author?

The most amazing and fulfilling experience I ever had was going to a book signing day and finding hundreds of people lined up. That was one of the most fulfilling experiences.

What was the craziest, weirdest, wildest experience you’ve had as a bestselling author?

The craziest, weirdest, wildest experience was when I decided to write my first novel. I had already written 7 books but they were all about my profession and it was easy for me. Writing a novel from the start that would support people understanding the philosophy of life and the truth behind it was really tough. If you asked me to write about spirituality, the miracle consciousness, love, healing, it is very easy for me because I have been giving lectures on unconditional love, healing, self mastering for over 15 years. But a novel, my God it was tough! It felt like I had to start all over again and get a second degree!

What is the greatest part about being a successful, bestselling author? What is the worst (if anything) part?

The greatest part is that you meet tens of people every day who read your books and got lots of beautiful experiences by them. I believe my readers are the biggest success I can ever have. I love them. I love hearing their experiences with my books, what they learned, how they changed their lives just by reading them. It is the best part. The worst would be getting stuck. Sometimes my life gets so busy with my own work, if I am also writing a book, I might get stuck for a while. I even forget the whole message behind it sometimes.

I find it hard to concentrate on my books once again after I wrote them and waited to go over them for a long time. That is the worst.

What is the one habit you believe contributed the most to you becoming a bestselling writer?

I am a very hardworking and dedicated person. When I am on a project or writing a book I concentrate on it as if it was a death and life matter. I do not give up, rest or do anything in between until I am done with what I need to finish. I know if I stop, it is going to take me forever to get back. Like one time, I was writing my third novel and I had to stop in the middle because my schedule with my seminars and lectures got very busy, then it took me at least another month to get back to writing again and I promised myself not to do it again.

Which writer or leader has had the biggest impact on you as a writer?

Eckhart Tolle because he writes everything so simple. He is talking about the universal knowledge but he can keep it really really simple. I love that.

What was the biggest challenge you faced in your journey to becoming a bestselling author? How did you overcome it?

If you have a good book and you know it is good for sure, the only thing you need to concentrate on should be getting people to read it. This was my biggest challenge. Because I knew my books were good books but I had to spend lots of time, energy, and money to get people to read them. I would suggest spending every penny you have on PR. Of course if you have a good book. If the book itself is not good, no PR campaign could help you.

What challenge or failure did you learn the most from in your writing career? What lesson(s) did you learn?

I learned that to write a really good book you need to be ready to invest your time, energy, money. It has to be the number one thing you concentrate on. You should think about it day and night, awake and asleep, that is how people write bestseller books.

You literally have to become the book. Live in it, be it, for it to be successful. You have to work as hard as you can and concentrate as if that book was a life and death issue. You cannot be a part time writer. You are either a full time writer while writing your book or not.

What are the things you would tell your younger self who was just starting out on their writing journey?

I would tell myself to believe in my books more than I did. I somehow knew they would be successful but still, I wanted to push and push and have more pr and spend more money on bill boards, magazines etc. I would not do that now. A good book always sells.

You definitely need good PR but you don’t need to force it. You don’t need to spend hundreds and thousands of money. A modest, good PR strategy would be enough. I would concentrate more and working closely to the books stores and do more projects with them instead of spending all my money on PR.

What are you most excited to work on next? Most excited to read next?

I am excited to read more on the Sufi Path because right now I am working on a project that would bring thousands of people to Anatolia and start the Sufi Trail Tradition again.

Many people read Rumi but they do not really experience Him. His words are alive, living in Anatolian ground. The Sufi Trail is the most powerful spiritual journey one can take and it does not have to be tough as the old days. We created a beautiful journey where people can experience everything that needs to be experienced on The Sufi Trail and easily. I am very excited for that! I am sure ı will write about it later.

You are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be?

I would tell everyone, YOUR IDEAS ARE UNIQUE. THEY ARE IMPORTANT. WRITE THEM. SHARE THEM. TEACH THEM. We are all teachers and students in our own worlds. Once you stop learning or teaching you die. So keep on learning and keep on teaching so that you can keep on living!

Thank you so much for these great insights!

THRIVE GLOBAL: Joie De Vivre: “My biggest strategy is saying YES to life”

My biggest strategy is saying YES to life. Yes to everything. Every emotion, every thought, everything life brings my way. I realized that anything dysfunctional is dysfunctional and harmful because we said NO to something. Our resistance is our sickness. Our no’s to life, no’s to experiences, emotions are the sickness we have to cure. Saying yes to love but saying no to hate, saying yes to happiness but saying no to sadness created a sick, unfulfilled, disoriented community of people. You say no to your self every time you say to life. LIFE IS YOU. THE WHOLE LIFE IS YOU. So whenever we say no to life, an emotion, an experience, we say no to our selves, our connection with ourselves and we create dysfunctional habits, negativity, sickness. I believe and also teach that SAYING YES TO EVEYTHING IS LIFE IS THE BIGGEST LESSON TO LEARN. And other than that I actually have no strategies at all. I know that if I try lead my life it will lead to unhappiness, sickness, problems, but if I let the divine power lead me, I live inside THE MIRACLE OF LIFE. In that reality, I am healed, in love, in bliss forever.

I had the pleasure of interviewing NEVSAH a spiritual leader committed to your enlightenment. As a best-selling author, a faculty member of the Graduate School of Behavioral Health Sciences, a consultant to Better Physiology, Ltd., the Founding President of the Breath Coaching Federation (https://www.breathcoachingfederation.org), the national representative of International Breathwork Foundation, Nevsah has won numerous awards in her field and has been an inspiration to millions. She is a recognized authority on emotional and physical healing through breathing.

Thank you so much for doing this with us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

My own journey brought me here. Even if I literally had everything in my life, I was feeling unfulfilled, disoriented. I, had no motivation, no energy, could not control my negative thinking and I did not know what to do. This was 20 years ago, when I was in my 20s. I was healthy, had a great life, was always successful, went to the best schools in Turkey, had a great social life, my family, friends, everybody supported and loved me. I really had it all and yet I was really unhappy. I did not know why. When I look back right now, I can see that I was searching for something I already had but could not connect with that because of my breathing habit. We read, hear, know about the importance of connecting with ourselves, with our truth, with our inner self, but nobody shows us how. I mean, how to really really, REALLY have a deep relationship with ourselves. Yoga, meditation, self education, coaching helps. Of course. But these did not help me. I was a yoga teacher, doing meditation everyday, all kinds of breathing techniques, going to India twice a year, meeting all kinds of gurus but nothing seemed to help me. I was still thinking to much, I was still creating a heel inside my head, still disoriented and still did not want to live anymore… I know there are people out there like me. I know people really really REALLY want to change. They want the real thing. Not toys that will make them feel good for awhile and then go away. I would practice yoga, do meditation, breathing techniques and I felt ike I wanted to stay there, in that centered, calm, perfect state forever! And I could not do it. Why? Because I had a dysfunctional breathing habit like most people and my habit would get triggered from different situations in my life and what was happening in my respiratory chemistry would ruin my psychology even without me realizing it happen! It would happen automatically, without my control and I would be left with dissatisfaction, unhappiness and lots of negativity. Then I would meditate again, calm down, get back to stress, dissatisfaction again, then back to the yoga mat. This was a vicious circle and I did not want that. I wanted something SUSTAINABLE. I wanted to wake up calm and centered and go to bed like that, without needing to practice a breathing exercise, yoga or meditation. OI somehow knew this was possible because I was there when I was a child. You know it is possible! But you don’t know how because dysfunctional habits are learned unconsciously and they get triggered without you realizing it. But the moment I got some support from breath analysists and started working on my dysfunctional habits, everything started changing. Now I am not only healthy and full of energy but also centered, positive, calm, happy and fullfilled and I do not need any technique, practice to be that. This is it!

What does it mean for you to live “on purpose”? Can you explain? How can one achieve that?

Living on purpose means sharing what helped me heal, psychologically, mentally, physically with everyone. Spreading the word. Telling people IT IS POSSIBLE TO BE IN PERFECT SHAPE ALL THE TIME, MENTALLY, EMOTIONALLY, PHYSICALLY, WITHOUT NEEDING A METHOD, WITHOUT HAVING TO DO THIS OR THAT. Perfect psychological and physical health is possible just the way we are, but only if we have a functional, natural breathing habit. And we had that when we were children. Imagine the time you were a little child. Connect with your feelings, who you were, how you were feeling, how much you were enjoying life, how much fun this life was… All of it, all of this was because you had a functional, natural breathing habit. But unfortunately we all learn to manipulate our breathing for different reasons and we lose our connection with our natural selves. Working on our breath scientifically and spiritually, all at the same time allows us to connect with our natural selves which changes everything! So purpose for me means TELLING THE WHOLE WORLD ABOUT THE MIRACLE OF BREATH.

Do you have an example or story in your own life of how your pain helped to guide you to finding your life’s purpose?

As I wrote above, having it all and not being fulfilled was very very painful. I thought there was something wrong with me. I remember asking myself ‘’why are you like this? You are healthy, beautiful, abundant, successful, have love, friendship, family, everything in your life, why are you not happy? Are you mad?’’ This was going on my head on and on and on and I just could not find why. I was not able to talk about this to anyone, even my parents. I was having a hard time waking up, had no energy, no passion, no goals, nothing. And the worst thing was that I had already done everything, tried everything I thought might help. I was a yoga teacher, doing meditation everyday, going to India, to ashrams two times year, doing energy work, getting coaching sessions. These would ‘’seem to help me’’ for awhile but then I would get back to my depressive, disoriented state again. I had no idea my breathing habit was doing that to me because it was actually happening unconsciously. There was a breathing habit my body learned, probably in my childhood and that was getting triggered all the time, in different situations in my life and I was feeling horrible when that happened. I had no control on it. Like all dysfunctional habits people learn, we do not have any control because mainly our bodies are doing it. We all need support. We all need an expert that will analyze our dysfunctional behavior we are not aware of, and support us in overcoming that habit. Or else we are trapped. I was. And I know many people are. Nothing seemed to help, until I met a breath facilitator who analysed my breathing habit and I started working with him on changing my breathing behavior. I really don’t know what changed in my being, (even if I now know as an expert what changed) because I was not doing that dysfunctional habit anyway. My body was doing it. I was totally unconscious about it. Maybe this is the most important thing for people to get. And my purpose in life is tell that to people. STOP BLAMING YOUR SELF. YOU ARE NOT IN CONTROL OF YOUR DYFCUNTIONAL HABITS THAT ARE RUINING YOUR LIFE. YOU ARE NOT DOING IT CONSCIOUSLY. YOUR SYSTEM, YOUR PHYSIOLOGY, EVEN YOUR BRAIN LEARNED SOME HABITS AND THEY ARE HAPPENING AUTOMATICALLY. THE GOOD NEW IS YOU CAN CHANGE THAT BY GETTING SUPPORT! :)

The United States is currently rated at #18 in the World Happiness Report. Can you share a few reasons why you think the ranking is so low?

I believe that the only reason is dysfunctional breathing and thinking habits which is the reason for all problems we are facing in our world. We ruin our worlds, our bodies, our families, children, psychology without even knowing about it and we all need real help. For me real help is only supporting a person’s habit. The rest is just story. Teaching a technique to calm you down, to relax you when you are stressed, doing exercise, doing that, doing this is just like taking a pill or drinking alcohol. People are so used to ‘’soothing themselves’’ with artificial stuff, they even starting using breath as a pacifier. I believe breathing techniques are no different than pacifiers. They do not change the source of the problem but only work on the result level. I am no longer interested in soothing myself or people when they are upset, unhappy, stressed, unhealthy etc. I am only interested in REAL CHANGE. And REAL CHANGE CAN ONLY HAPPEN WHEN YOU CHANGE YOUR HABITS. That is why I just love behavioural science. It works on the core of human being. We combined breath work with coaching and behavioural science basics, which supports people change any dysfunctional breathing habit they have, (that is keeping them unhealthy, stressed, negative, unfulfilled, unhappy) and change those habits forever. When your body learns a new, healthier, functional breathing habit, it stays. That is the beauty of what we are doing and that is one of the most important reason I am really truly committed to this work. WHEN YOU CHANGE PEOPLE’S BREATHING HABITS, THEIR LIVES CHANGE TOTALLY. If we cannot do that, I don’t see anyway people can be happy, fulfilled, healthy anymore. Nothing will help.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I am very grateful to what I do because I literally see people changing their whole lives, instantly, after changing their breathing habits. They go beyond their limits, stop doing whatever they were doing dysfunctional, they stop doing the things they were doing that was ruining their lives, health, relationships, business and naturally start building their lives from scratch. That is amazing for me to watch. I met amazing people over the years. People cured cancer, MS, migraine, attention deficit problems, relationship problems, ulcers, diabetes, many illness, their psychology, everything, just by changing their breathing habits. That is big! I believe being successful in what I do let me to more people and gave me the chance to support more people that were in need of healing or just change.

What are your 6 strategies to help you face your day with exuberance, “Joie De Vivre” and a “ravenous thirst for life”? Can you please give a story or example for each?

And I am teaching how to become that, in my courses that are now held in more than 20 cities around the world.

Do you have any favorite books, podcasts, or resources that most inspired you to live with a thirst for life?

Everything I ever read, listened to, heard always showed me that I already know everything by heart so I just started teaching. I started sharing the one and only knowledge I believe each and every enlightened being is connected to and I learn by my own teachings. I am inspired by my own life and my own teachings. Being able to say yes to the divine power keeps us in an amazing learning process. I am already in that process so I do not learn from the world, the world learns from my connection with The Divine and I actually learn with the world. :) My favourite books are novel books. I love reading about true life stories, fiction and all kinds of stories. I choose story books. And my favourite ones are love stories. :)

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote” that relates to having a Joie De Vivre? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?

LIFE IS A MOMENT AND IT IS THIS MOMENT. I do not know who said it, maybe I said it in one of my seminars, that sentence is like a heart beat to me. It says everything and yet says nothing. I sometimes take a deep breath and say ‘’THIS MOMENT’ and then let it out. And again… THIS MOMENT… Then, it goes. And another, new moment… The ability of saying YES to all those moments I believe is THE SECRET OF LIFE.

Are you working on any exciting new projects now? How do you think that will help people?

Nevsah Institute is the fastest growing breath coaching school in the world. We train more than 300 breath coaches ever year. They are now all around the world, supporting people change their breathing habits. I am privileged to be the leader they choose so I am doing my best to spread the word around the world and do courses, give lectures, train as much people as I can till my last breath. I see that what we do in our courses, The Miracle Course is changing the world and I am humbled by this. I did not even plan this. Like I said, I do not lead, I let The Divine lead me and everything happens by itself. So now, what that Divine Power tells me is to keep on going and to reach as many people as I can by getting support from people like. I am very very grateful for this interview and I know these sentences will change thousands of people’s lives. So thank you for being the light, my support and the guidance to call my words, which is The Words of The Divine. The Call of The Divine. The Divine Power is showing us the way, saying to human kind ‘’work on your breath my dear children, that is the only way to reach Me…’’ The I am Presence is in our breath but only in our natural breath…

You are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. :-)

THE BREATH MOVEMENT. CHANGE YOUR BREATH AND YOU WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

WELLVYL MAGAZINE: BREATHING LEADS TO MIRACLES

Breathing is an obvious part of our lives. It is how we know we are alive. All health, fitness, and wellness practices emphasize the importance of breath. But after attending the first part of the Miracle Course breathwork seminar led by Nevsah. We do not take it seriously enough. There is so much science and spirituality in the breathing that Nevsah puts together into a life-changing experience.

Being the editor of a wellness magazine gives me some perks. One of those perks being able to attend new and unique wellness seminars, etc. And this one I was very excited to try. Especially after meeting Nevsah, and Melike Ryan who works at Bloomberg business. The two ladies were very nice, and warm.

The day of the seminar, Melike warned me that this was not going to be easy. That this was going to be easy, and that the work was hard but I would come out of it a whole new woman. I was especially intrigued after this, and have to admit, a little scared. The other guests were health and wellness practitioners wanting to learn more ways to service their clientele. Me, I was just a young lost girl, thirsting for this life-changing experience. But what kind of vulnerability that is required, I did not think I possess. I was scared.

First, we started in a conference room. The smart and beautiful Nevsah led the way. Her accent made everything she said sounds poetic. Transformational coach Nevsah has made it her life’s work to guide others into awakening into their own potential through the power of our breath.

After studying architecture, Nevsah decided to change her life totally and chose the spiritual path. She lived in India for some time where she received her breath therapy and meditation training in 2003. She worked as a certified Transformational Breath facilitator and trainer for 4 years.

She was the first person bringing transformational breath to Turkey and she trained more than 2000 people in 4 years. Inspired by transformational breathing, holistic breathing, breathing therapy, rebirthing, quantum physics, life coaching, and meditation tools.

In 2008, Nevsah started developing her own system with a group of psychologists and neuroscientists. She has been the founder and president of NFS School of Life for 11 years, has worked with more than 100.000 people in her seminars, meetings, private sessions, and workshops.

She made us write on our paper, I AM RESPONSIBLE.

But, what are we responsible for? Self.

And being at this seminar was the first step towards taking responsibility for ourselves.  And at the same time identifying why we are not responsible for. Which is not always easy to accept.

Remember, we are not reacting to the world. The world is reacting to us. What kind of energy are we putting out in the world? And why has it not been doing what we want it to do. It goes back to our ego consciousness. We all possess it and it holds us back.

Followed by this were a breathing and stretching exercise. We are paired with a life/breathing coach who asks us what we want to gain out of this and in life. My coach, could not be nicer. She helped me gain the strength to do it all. To really let go. She held my stomach and told me I was doing a good job.

Shallow breathes are a sign of how we approach our lives. This is what I learned at the Miracle Course and I am more than happy that I was able to attend.

Joie De Vivre: “My biggest strategy is saying YES to life”

My biggest strategy is saying YES to life. Yes to everything. Every emotion, every thought, everything life brings my way. Our no’s to life, no’s to experiences, emotions are the sickness we have to cure.

I am very grateful to what I do because I literally see people changing their whole lives, instantly, after changing their breathing habits. POSITIVE HEALTH: Why Creating the Right Breathing Habits can help Cure Illnesses

With Scientific research done globally, it is said and talked about how Dysfunctional breathing habits can cause so many issues within our health. Our body PH levels dictate our health, but I will share with you it doesn’t matter how healthy you eat, how frequently you detox, or even if you drink the most cleansing pH water.

Breath dictates our health and it is the chemistry of our respiratory system and our breathing habits that play the vital role of our everyday life. Having the wrong respiratory habits can demolish our respiratory chemistry. By the chemistry being broken down, our kidneys start to fail which has a huge role in our body as a buffer mechanism and can cause even kidney diseases where the underlying cause maybe wrong breath habits.

By having the wrong chemistry of the respiratory system, it can be being broken down by our breath habits which causes the oxyhaemoglobin levels in our blood to decrease. What does this mean? It means that there is not enough oxygen in cellular respiratory, which creates the lack of the main nutritional ingredient that is necessary for our cells to be alive, to live and to stay healthy.

There are more than 40 anaerobic diseases known today. With wrong breathing habits, this might be the reason behind many diseases as the core cause, while our oxygen levels drops in our blood and cellular respiratory cannot occur. If your body had less than 2 % of oxygen in your blood, it can be fatal! Even a neurologist would share the fatal effect of not carrying  enough oxygen in the blood which can then travel up to your brain...

Hypocapnia, which is the result of wrong breath habits, causes vasoconstriction. So, even if there is enough oxygen in the blood, there is a constriction in the brain vessels thus not only headaches, dizziness, memory loss, perception difficulties happen but many more follows.

Nevsah Karamehmet Breath Coach has as her focus optimal breathing for improving health and performance. She is a recognized authority who combines science and spirituality for physical, emotional, mental development and for enhancing psychological well-being. She is a pioneer in helping people learn functional breathing habits and a motivational speaker on the subject of consciousness and breathing. She teaches about staying in the ‘now’ through breathing, in her Miracle Courses.

NATURAL AWAKENINGS MAGAZINE: Breathing Away Dysfunction

Nevsah F. Karamehmet Breathing Away Dysfunction
by Lorraine Ferrier

Nevsah F. Karamehmet is a breath specialist, author, motivational speaker and director of the Breath Coaching Federation. Many of us understand that diet can affect our health, but there is something we require even more than food or water. It's air, and our breathing doesn't always work as well as it should. "Breathing is a behavioral habit:' says Karamehmet. "Unfortunately, it can be a dysfunctional habit" Many people are not getting air in the proper amount because of dysfunctional breathing habits, and sometimes the solutions offered—breathing techniques—actually pose risks to our health. Proper breath fuels the mind and body. Learning a breathing technique sounds like a simple, safe solution to increase our productivity and focus, but Karamehmet advises, "Doing a specific technique is not a solution:' Karamehmet studied with top breath experts around the world and discovered that while breathwork is a technique that can help alleviate some discomforts, it does not solve the underlying problems. The deeper Karamehmet studied breathing, the more she realized that "Everything that is a technique is an incorrect attitude" Some breathing techniques can even keep people sick. Breathing needs to be natural and not manipulated. "It's a brainstem reflex, and the more you surrender, the more you let go, the better you breathe she says.

Breathing is Not Respiration The key to understanding our breath, Karamehmet explains, is knowing that breathing and respiration are not the same; the breath can alter the mind (psychology), but a breathing pattern is a behavior that is learned and unlearned. Breathing techniques can alter our respiratory chemistry and affect our mind and emotions, and because everyone is so different physiologically and psychologically, there is no one breath that fits all. Karamehmet discovered the benchmark for a normal breath of six breaths per minute may be normal for some, but it could send others into a state of hypocapnia that can bring about numerous ailments. This occurs when carbon dioxide decreases in the lungs and in the arterial blood, changing the body's pH. When the pH rises above 7.45, the body becomes more alkaline, entering respiratory alkalosis, which can then cause panic, breathlessness, dizziness, confusion and even muscle spasms. Those symptoms are often treated with breathing techniques that are typically a shortterm solution that cannot solve the root issues responsible for the symptoms. Karamehmet saw that as the pH level rose in her clients, so did the negative thoughts and emotions. Treating breath with a technique is a bit like treating a coughing, spluttering car by varying pressure on the gas pedal. It may help at that moment, but in the long term, it makes sense to look at the engine.

The Fast City Breath

Sometimes the way we breathe is a product of our environment or an adaption to it. "Typically, in big, crowded cities where people are usually in a rush, fast and shallow breathing is more present:' says Karamehmet. She thinks that fast, shallow breathing patterns can suppress emotions and selfawareness. "The moment someone resolves their dysfunctional breathing habit, all the emotions they kept suppressed rise up and can now be resolved:' she advises. Fast breathing, slow breathing, shallow breathing, diaphragmatic breathing and chest breathing can all be dysfunctional breathing habits that start as early as age 3. "Life gets intense, and we get overwhelmed when we are children, and we in turn start to manipulate our breath:' says Karamehmet. "The dysfunctuional breathing becomes a way to cope with our feelings" From more than 20 years of working with breathing and seeing thousands of clients, Karamehmet has found that fixing this dysfunctional coping mechanism can ease health issues that can typically arise later in life. Restoring natural breathing can also help restore focus and energy sometimes in a noticeable or even profound manner.

Beyond Breathing Techniques

Karamehmet's fourpronged approach to restoring natural breath differs from breathwork techniques in that it combines breath coaching, breath exercise, behavioral science and life coaching. She utilizes a capnograph, an instrument that measures carbon dioxide levels, allowing clients to see in real time how their breathing habits stress their body and mind. As dysfunctional breathing takes hold, focus is lost. Karamehmet states,"Getting tired is not the reason you're not focused, but rather the dysfunctional breathing habit gets triggered when you are tired, leading you to lose focus. The moment you realize you are doing something dysfunctional with your breath, you can change it." Karamehmet is on a mission to improve the way we breath by having a breath coach in every hospital a decade from now

Natural Awakenings October 2018 13

SUN TIMES MAGAZINE: EXTEND YOUR LIFE SPAN BY BREATHING RIGHT

Nevşah Fidan Karamehmet is a graduate of Yıldız Technical University Department of Architecture. Following her short career as an architect, discovering the miracle of breathing right thanks to her Dutchman breathing coach she calls "her savior" which she met in İndia, she broke ground by becoming the first "Breathing Coach" of Turkey. In the "Mucize Kursu" (Miracle Course) she gives in the U.S.A., England and Turkey, she talks about the importance of breathing naturally. She is encouraging the participants to stop acting like a victim and instead of just waiting for their lives to change, to get into action and take control of it. She has nine books published on breathing. She is getting ready to publish her last book Nefs. Her new book, "Awakening" will be released in October in the U.S.A. Emphasizing that many ailments like migraines, gynecological diseases, and cancer can be prevented and even healed by breathing right Nevşah Fidan Karamehmet says, "Cells die wherever there's no breath. Breathing heals cells, rejuvenates muscles and organs. It is possible to extend your lifespan by breathing right."

I would like to start the interview by asking, "Are we breathing right?"

According to a research carried out, 8 out of 10 people have dysfunctional breathing habits. That is to say they have an acquired, wrong way of breathing. Even though people breathe right till they are 2, later, with the development of the ego, we distort breathing. To be able to cope with ambient conditions, we develop some defense mechanisms even when we are a baby. One of them is to hold our breath.

When do breathing problems come about and why?

There are hundreds of out of the ordinary circumstances triggering our breathing habits. Fear, anger, stress, exhaustion, sports, eating, travelling, meeting new people, doing homework, going to school, learning, questioning ourselves, getting on a plane or a car, resting, falling asleep ete.

What impact does breathing have on our lives?

It totally affects our psychology. How we think, what we feel, our behaviors, motivation, who we are, in short everything. Since each breath has an impact on our respiratory ehemistry, it also impacts our body significantly. There are hundreds of ailments listed in ali the breathing specialists' books caused by hypocapnia experienced due to changes in our respiratory ehemistry (breathing abnormally rapidly and excessively) and hypercapnia (respiratory insufficiency).

Can you deseribe how to breathe right?

To be able to make the right deseription of that, we must first understand that breathing and respiration are two different systems. The respiratory system is an involuntary one that works as a reflex of the brain stem. We cannot intervene in that system. But we can interfere with our breathing. When we say breath, we are speaking more of a psychological situation. We learn to interfere with our breathing to change our mental State, to abstain from certain emotions, and suppress some of them in order to be able to keep our emotional State under control and for many other reasons. When we do that we actually impair the natural State of breathing and this may trigger, augment and make permanent more than 200 symptoms by affeeting our respiratory ehemistry. First, the person who learned to interfere with his breathing must reinstate that natural healthy breathing habit by disengaging and getting freed from this habit. This training session should be based on behavioral Sciences, requiring implementation of various exercises. Here's when the breathing coaches come into play.

How do you teach it? What is the training process in the "Mucize Kursu" (Miracle Course) you have set up with this aim?

The course consists of a melding of various disciplines with transformational breathing training coming first and foremost. The content of the course was set out to trigger and bring forth the dysfunctional breathing and thinking habits of the participants and work on them in order to get them to take up new, healthy and natural habits. To this day, I must have worked with över 20 thousand people in person. However if we add the seminars, trainings and sessions up, I can easily say that I touched the lives of more than 100 thousand individuals. If people understand how important breathing is and what impact it has on our lives, and attending our courses change their breathing habits, their whole lives will change. 1 think these people are smart, open minded and highly perceptive. Those people who attend and finish my courses, listen and implement what I'm saying, and become breathing coaches, trainers themselves who lead their lives in health, abundance, success, happiness and love miraculously.

Can you analyze someone's personality from the way he breathes?

Certainly. Our breathing has an impact on our psychology, as a whole. We can alter our mood by changing it. For instance, if someone wants to be solely a person of the heart, to love everyone, s/he can manage to do that by not taking abdominal breaths. Our abdominal area is the place we get into contact with the material world and our egos. If you do not take any abdominal breaths then the chances of you becoming someone who loves and embraces ali but cannot keep your feet firmly on the ground, and decisively move ahead in life inereases. You can also experience problems with your legs, genitalia and health problems in the areas of your body below the belt. Of course, quite the opposite is also true. Those who take breaths to their abdominal area, to the diaphragm turn out to be self-confident people who have their feet planted firmly in the ground, and forge ahead with strong steps, but if you take breathes to your heart area then you may experience problems in trusting people and forgiving. These people tend to have high blood pressure, heart and brain problems. Those taking excessive breaths to their diaphragms can experience problems such as attention deficit disorder, stress, prostration, problems with their brain, respiratory distress, MS, sudden mood swings and conditions of this şort.

Can we defend ourselves from becoming sick and relieve ourselves of stress?

However weil you may be fed, strive to think positive, if your bodily fluids' PH rate is acidic or high in alkaline then you will, of course, be thinking and feeling negative and will not be able to override this. Hence, a natural breath, and the stable respiration as a result of natural breathing is something of a miracle. Your whole world changes. But you should abandon wrong breathing habits and give yourself only five days to develop a healthy and natural habit anew. By coming to the camp named "Mucize Kursu" and working on what is wrong, you can take up the natural breathing habits. 1 would like to give my life as an example. Even though I have quite a busy sehedule and am travelling ali the time, I have not even önce had a cold for the last 15 years. I do not recall even an instant when my mood was low and I was thinking negatively. My relationships with my family and friends are miraculous. I'm constantly developing spiritually, physically and mentally.

ELITE DAILY: How Breathing Affects Your Mood, Even When You Don't Realize It, According To An Expert

BY GEORGINA BERBARI

If I had to guess, you probably never think about the way you're breathing. After all, you don't really have to, right? But the thing is, your breathing can subconsciously affect how you're feeling. Something that you might rarely think about, because of its autonomy, can actually make a huge difference in terms of your overall state of mind. Breathing has the power to affect your mood in so many ways; in fact, according to an expert breathing coach, the day-to-day stress you feel might be correlated to the quality of your inhales and exhales.

Because breathing is something you instinctively know how to do, Nevsah Karamehmet, a distinguished and highly respected international leader in the field of breath coaching, tells Elite Daily over email, you essentially have to "re-learn" how to move through your inhales and exhales — at least, if you want them to work for you rather than against you when you're stressed, anxious, or feeling otherwise out-of-sorts.

"Even if we all were born with a natural, perfect breath which was perfectly aligned with our respiratory system, we all learn to manipulate, control, [and] change our breathing consciously or unconsciously for different reasons," Karamehmet says.

MOST OF THOSE REASONS, SHE ADDS, HAVE TO DO WITH SUPPRESSING CERTAIN EMOTIONS, PARTICULARLY IN TIMES OF STRESS.

Once you've grown accustomed to a certain way of breathing, Karamehmet explains, it's not uncommon for you to channel those habits in stressful situations, like on an airplane if you're afraid of flying, or even in more casual, everyday situations, like when you're falling asleep if you're anxious about something happening the next day, or when you're a bit nervous about meeting new people.

"Breathing habits get triggered unconsciously and automatically because they became a habit, a physiological habit, and if we don't work on them with basic behavioral science rules, they will get triggered every time there is a situation," the breathing coach tells Elite Daily.

The thing is, for the most part, you can't always get rid of or avoid situations in your life that put you in a bad mood. As Karamehmet points out, there will always be various sources of stress in your life, and therefore various situations that might cause your breathing to become shallow, erratic, or otherwise disrupted — which, according to the Calm Clinic, can lead to chest pain, lightheadedness, and even an irregular heartbeat if the problem isn't addressed sooner rather than later.

So instead of trying to avoid those situations (which would probably be impossible anyway), Karamehmet tells Elite Daily, "consciously watching the breath during stressful times, when we are angry, tired, when things don't feel right and we lose our focus, would be the best way to start."

I know what you're probably thinking: How does simply paying more attention to your breath make any real difference? But as an expert coach in the field, Karamehmet insists this is her biggest piece of advice for people who are looking for ways to manage mood swings and stress through their breathing.

"Do not manipulate [your breath]," she says. "Just watch. Be aware of what that breathing habit does to you — awareness is the key. Dysfunctional habits can be unlearned, and new habits can be learned, but only if you become aware of them first."

This might seem intimidating or unattainable, but all that breath awareness requires are simple mindfulness and meditation practices that are accessible to pretty much anyone. Once you can maintain that awareness of your breathing, you'll realize you have the power to shift your entire mood. From there, you can try a few relaxing breathing practices, such as balanced breathing, alternate nostril breathing, and cooling breath. It may not seem like it in the moment, but calming yourself in a stressful situation really is just a few inhales and exhales away.

HIGH LIFE MAGAZINE: An Experience of Breath

For centuries, trainings on breathing techniques are being done. In the far east, in many religious beliefs and practices, breath is there. We see breathing instructions in teachings of Yoga, Sufizm, Budhism, and Shamanism. Nevsah Fidan Karamehmet is a world famous name in breath coaching field.

I attended a breath therapy session made by Karamehmet who is also the founding-president of the International Breath Coaching Federation and the member of the American Institute of Breathing. With this breath theraphy session, I, too, began to breath properly, and could let far points of my body get introduced with oxygen.

MEN'S FITNESS MAGAZINE: STAY HEALTHY WITHOUT BEING SO HARD ON YOURSELF

The "Miracle Course" developed by Nevsah Fidan is in the Men's Fitness Magazine...

As summer is approaching, Nevsah F. Karamehmet, founder of the breath coaching system, advises people not to be overdriven at heavy sports to be fit, and she adds, “Wait, wait and learn proper breathing!” Lately, breath; the life source of all living beings and “proper breathing” one of the most effective and natural health therapy methods in the world, attract more and more attention.

“Unless our breath is open, neither our skin nor our other cells, or our internal organs can rejuvenate themselves. For this reason, first of all, we need to keep our breath open.” Nevsah F.Karamehmet explains what we can do to have a healthy skin and physical fitness without putting a strain upon our bodies. She proposes working out and breathing at one’s own pace instead of battering the body and beating it up. In regard of this, she explains that “yoga, Pilates, walking, tennis, swimming, skiing and water sports should be more focused on.” As Karamehmet points out, research says in America that it was found out that 90% of the calls came to the emergency line 9-1-1, with the complaints of steno cardia, dizziness and anxiety attacks were caused only because of hypocapnia leaded by wrong breath habits.

RUNNING REGULARLY INCREASES THE QUALITY OF LIFE

According to the Life Fitness Academy Turkey Running Master Coach, Mehmet Çetin, “Running is a type of training method in which effective results in fitness performance can be achieved much quicker. Running is a faster phase of walking and while walking it is difficult to reach a certain high pulse rate. However, while running it becomes easier to achieve this. Doing a cardiovascular training during running, the resting pulse starts to decrease. This is a good thing because it escalates the recovery process during the training. Additionally, it reinforces physical and mental endurance and enhances the quality of life.

WHEN THE WEATHER IS HOT, BE CAREFUL CYCLING!

With the rising of temperature day by day, cycling, one of the favorite activities in good weather, needs to be done with precautions. The Captain of the Istanbul Peloton Racing Team Tufan Sagnak, reminds us not to forget using sun protection cream and wearing sun protective clothes and drinking more are essential to prevent ourselves from the possible dangerous effects of the sun rays. He also advises us to cycle preferably in the early morning and evening times when the sun rays are tangent.

WOMEN'S FITNESS MAGAZINE: MIRACLE WORKER 'BREATH'

The "Miracle Course" developed by Nevsah Fidan is in the Women's Fitness Magazine...

I’m pretty sure that you’ve heard the name: Nevsah Fidan. If you haven´t so far, let me tell you about her a bit. She is a brilliant breath coach, the president of the Breath Coaching Federation, moreover, she is a life coach.

Nevsah Fidan, in the “Miracle Course” she created based on the conception of limiting breath does not allow you to be yourself, speaks about how World is not a system itself and when you are awaken to the Truth; then, you can create your own World. As you know, there is a saying “it cannot be described but only experienced”, the Miracle Course is exactly a program like that. For an intensive five days, mornings begin with the 5 Tibetan Rites exercise, then affirmations and sound vibrations, kundalini breath and finally 100 breath, all of which has an energizing quality. These are followed by Nevsah Fidan´s valuable teachings about life until noon. After lunch, there are breath sessions and more of the teaching sessions coming afterwards.

In this course, you forgive the ones you were not able to before. You approach life with a different perspective, you begin not to pay much attention to the problems which were once overrated. For five days, maybe for the first time, you have an opportunity to put your life, yourself under the scope and consider them at length, and even get to know yourself. This process provides a cognitive detox.

Up to now, I’ve read many personal development books, however, this is the first time I am able to implement what I’ve learnt so far, with Nevsah Fidan. Endless thanks. Everybody should remain in the breath and at least experience it once in a life time!

Nevsah and her amazing work reached to 8 million people in New York

NEW YORK—Many of us understand that diet can affect our health, but there is something we need even more than food or water: air. And our breathing doesn’t always work as it should.

“Breathing is a behavioral habit,” said breath expert Nevsah Fidan Karamehmet. Unfortunately, “it can be a dysfunctional habit.”

Many people are not getting air in the right amounts because of dysfunctional breathing habits, and sometimes the solution offered—breathing techniques—actually poses risks to our health.

Proper breath fuels the mind and body. Learning a breathing technique sounds like a simple, safe solution to increase our productivity and focus, but “doing a specific technique is not a solution,” Karamehmet said.

Karamehmet studied with top breath experts around the world and discovered that while breathwork is a technique that can help alleviate the discomfort, it does not solve the underlying problem.

The deeper into breath Karamehmet worked, the more she realized that “everything that is a technique is a wrong attitude.”

Some breathing techniques can even keep people sick. Breathing needs to be “natural not manipulated,” she said.

“It’s a brain-stem reflex, and the more you surrender, the more you let go, the better you breathe,” she said.

Breathing Is Not Respiration

The key to understanding our breath, Karamehmet explains, is knowing that breathing and respiration are not the same; the breath can alter the mind (our psychology), but a breathing pattern is a behavior that is learned—and can be unlearned. Breathing techniques can alter our respiratory chemistry and affect our mind and emotions.

And because everyone is so different physiologically and psychologically, there is no one breath that fits all.

Karamehmet discovered the benchmark for a normal breath of six breaths per minute may be normal for some, but could send others into a state of hypocapnia, in which carbon dioxide levels in the blood are reduced.

Hypocapnia can bring about hundreds of ailments, says Karamehmet, and occurs when carbon dioxide decreases in the lungs and in the arterial blood, changing the pH. When the pH rises above 7.45, the body becomes more alkaline, entering respiratory alkalosis, which can then cause panic, breathlessness, dizziness, confusion, and even muscle spasms.

Those symptoms are often treated with breathing techniques, but that’s a short-term solution that won’t solve the root issues that caused the symptom.

Karamehmet saw that as the pH rose, so did the negative emotions and thoughts of her clients.

Treating breath with a technique is a bit like treating our coughing, spluttering car by varying pressure on the gas pedal. It may help at that moment, but in the long term, it makes sense to look at the engine.

The Fast City Breath

Sometimes the way we breathe is a product of our environment or an adaption to it, says Karamehmet.

“[In] crowded, big cities where people have to be in a rush all the time, people have more fast and shallow breathing,” she said.

Karamehmet believes that fast, shallow breathing pattern can suppress emotions and self-awareness.

“The moment they change their breathing habit, all the emotions they kept suppressed rise up,” said Karamehmet.

Fast breathing, slow breathing, shallow breathing, diaphragmatic breathing, and chest breathing can all be dysfunctional breathing habits that start as early as age 3.

“Life gets intense, and we get overwhelmed when we are children and start to manipulate our breath,” she said. The disordered breathing becomes a way to cope with our feelings.

Over 20 years of working with breath and seeing thousands of clients, Karamehmet has found that fixing this dysfunctional coping mechanism can ease health issues that arise later. Restoring natural breathing can also help restore focus and energy.

While we cannot say all diseases are caused by dysfunctional breathing habits, if you have a symptom that is triggered by a dysfunctional habit, then working on it and learning a functional habit can relieve that symptom, and, in turn, the ailment will be gone, says Karamehet.

This discovery often surprises doctors and health professionals Karamehmet meets as she lectures throughout Europe. Many express surprise at missing the connection.

Beyond Techniques

Karamehmet’s four-pronged approach to restoring natural breath differs from breathwork techniques, in that it combines breath coaching, breath exercise, behavioral science, and coaching.

First, the breathing coach works at getting you into your dysfunctional breathing habit and coaches you to become aware of it.

Karamehmet does this by hooking clients up to a capnograph, a machine that shows carbon dioxide levels. It’s valuable to see the precise point of dysfunctional breathing, which can reveal a correlation with negative thoughts, emotions, or tiredness. Clients can see how the breathing habit stresses their physiology in real time.

As dysfunctional breathing takes hold, focus is lost. Getting tired is not the reason you’re not focused, says Karamehmet, but rather the breathing habit that gets triggered when you are tired leads you to lose focus. The moment you realize you are doing something with your breath, you can change it.

Karamehet says a typical coaching session may go like this, after putting a client into their dysfunctional breathing habit:

Client: “I remember going to catch a bus when I was young, and I was really breathing fast, and I was feeling anxious.”

Karamehet: “Just like in this session?”

Client: “Yes. Every time I feel anxious, my fast breathing starts.”

Karamehet: “When does that breathing happen during the day?”

Client: “In meetings, when I feel anxious.”

Karamehet: “Do you realize you feel anxious like that not because you are in a meeting, but because of what you’re doing with your breath?”

The breathing habit that comes about at such a moment unsettles the body and leads to anxiety, Karamehet says.

To correct our breath may seem beyond our ability and unnatural, but Karamehmet says that with her method, clients learn to control breath and be aware of it to such an extent they can start breathing correctly and attain better health.

A decade from now, Karamehmet hopes to have a breath coach in every hospital. She’s already founded the Breath Coaching Federation, a professional organization for breath coaches. For now, she’s in New York and on a mission to help us breathe right, and get better.

INTERVIEW IN THE WELLVYL MAGAZINE

There is a rhythmic miracle going on within all of us. We all share in it at every waking moment. However most of the time, we are not only unconscious of its flow, our breath.

Inspired by transformational breathing, holistic breathing, breathing therapy, rebirthing, quantum physics, life coaching and meditation tools.

In 2008, Nevsah started developing her own system with a group of psychologists and neuroscientists. She has been the founder and president of NFS School of Life for 11 years, has worked with more than 100.000 people in her seminars, meetings, private sessions, and workshops.

I was fortunate enough to interview Nevsah about what her revolutionary Miracle Course that she offers.

AMY: What inspired you to come up with the idea of teaching the Miracle Course?

NEVSAH:  I have been meditating and working on myself since I was a little kid. My grandmother was a Sufi master so I grew up learning about surrendering while many people were in the control. I realized I had this amazing gift and I could support people to surrender and relax their breathing and change their dysfunctional breath. Breathing and life habits. So I got training in breathwork, coaching, respiration and behavioral science and developed my own system. It got really successful in Europe. More than 100,000 people finished The Miracle Course.

What kinds of topics will you cover?

We analyze your breathing habits and coach you with basic behavioural science rules. We then work on your thinking habits because our thinking habits affect our breathing and how we live our lives.

A Course In Miracles was a big influence on me because it’s exactly the same way I see the world. There is a lot of information and lecturing going on right now about miracle consciousness and truth. The Miracle Course is actually a big awakening for the human mind. You can read books and go to seminars but if you don’t change your cellular memory you cannot be be happy or healthy or successful. You have to change who you are not just how you think and that’s why The Miracle Course is so successful.

Who can attend?

The Miracle Course is open to everyone ages 12 and up

Why and how does having meaning in our life make us healthier individuals? How will having a meaningful life contribute to the overall social wellness of our society?

We are in the business of transforming the human mind into the next level. Where everything and anything can be possible in life. Literally not just in your mind but in your world. I see many people got it in their mind but because they did not change their breathing behaviours and cellular memory started pretending which is worse. You cannot fake positive energy. You are either there and you are living your dream life or you are not there yet. Imagine everyone being fulfilled in their lives. Happy and healthy and rich. The whole human experience would change right? It does. It does for people who take the course.

How will your experience as a breath coach play into the course?

I am actually not a breath coach.  I train and lead breath coaches so that they can support people in my seminars.  There will be one breath coach for every 4-5 participants in the course and that will make the whole difference. They will be coaching our participants one by one analysing their breaths and supporting them the whole time.

How does breathwork help overcome personal limitations?

All personal limitations are dysfunctional breathing habits. Our breathing regulates our body oh which as you know affects how we feel,  think and in the end behave. You become a totally different person literally when you have a functional breathing ha it and when negative emotions and thoughts don’t get triggered because your body pooh stays neutral. People are working hard trying to get rid of their limits but for you to do that easily you have to change your breathing habit which you probably learn when you were a little child and that limits you without even you knowing about it. Breathing habits are learned by or physiology.  If you don’t change what your physiology is doing without you in the there is no way you can go over your limits.

How could the Miracle Course improve overall social wellness in NYC? How can the Miracle Course improve the way interact with each other?

When we don’t have negative feelings and thoughts,  when these don’t get triggered because of our breathing habits we start connecting with each other.  Many people who finished the miracle course reported that they had healthier, fulfilling relationships they never had before.  They usually report that the connection with their natural breath and themselves keep them connected with their environment.

The power of transformation is already within ourselves. It is only a matter of be willing to awaken to its possibilities.

Nevsah's Miracle Course to take place at the New York Open Center

Ms. Nevsah Fidan Karamehmet (Nevsah), the Founding Director of the Miami-based IBCF (International Breath Coaching Federation, http://www.breathcoachingfederation.org) today announces her Miracle Course workshop April 26th - 29th, 2018, at the NY Open Center (22 East 30th Street).

The Miracle Course is a 4-day intensive workshop where participants begin on the evening of April 26th at 6pm. During the course, you will get conscious about your dysfunctional breathing and thinking habits. First time in your life, you will start recognizing your dysfunctional habits during breath-coaching sessions -- and then you will start learning new breathing habits. You will be working in groups of 3 with each coach working with the groups privately.

At the end of level-2 you will have an open and connected natural breath and oxygen levels in your blood. The levels will start rising. Instantly, you will experience positive changes in your thinking, breathing, eating and all kinds of life habits.

When you learn a natural breathing habit, something amazing starts to happen. Negative thoughts and negative feelings start to disappear and you start feeling and thinking positively.

For more information about the Miracle Workshop, or for registering yourself, go to http://www.breathcoachingfederation.org

Details of the Miracle Course at the NY Open Center is as follows:

DATES:

Thursday, April 26th 6pm -9pm

Friday, April 27th 6pm -9pm

Saturday, April 28th: 9am-6pm

Sunday, April 29th: 9am-6pm

LOCATION: 22 East 30th Street, Room 3A. New York, NY 10016

Nevsah quoted: “Everything you need to know about breathing will be covered during the Course, and if you like to change your life by changing your breath, then come and learn how to break the dysfunctional breathing habits, how to maximize your life, health and your overall wellbeing.”

“After you finish this course, you will be healthier, younger, fitter, more positive, happier, more peaceful, stronger emotionally," Nevsah also indicated. "We have to let the breath be as it is, and surrender to whatever is going on in our breath. Every manipulation, every technique, every 'work' we do with the breath leads to dysfunctional habits which are the real cause of many problems we are facing. We do not need breathing techniques, but we need to unlearn our dysfunctional breathing habits and learn new healthy habits in our everyday life. And that would be by working with a breath coach who can really, truly analyze the breath and identify dysfunctional habits, breath chemistry, psychology, behavior and physiology. I always say this, and I can not emphasize enough: WE HAVE TO CHANGE OUR PERCEPTION OF WHAT BREATH IS.”

Based on our former members' testimonies, based on anyone who experienced the Miracle Course, you will also feel:

Expansion to the reality spiritually;

The ability to look at yourself and your life with a totally different point of view!

Your relationships, private life, business life, social life in a totally different level!

An inner power and “eternal will” that can fulfill everything what you want and imagine!

And you will:

Completely remove sabotaging behavior patterns and the negatives in your life whose cause you don’t know, which we call “the authority syndrome!”

This course will let you delete the idea that “life is like that, because of this, I am like that”. Instead it will give you the truth that “I am like that, because of this, my life is like that” will become “the day you gain control over your power and life.”

How is the Miracle Course working?

Change your Dysfunctional Breathing Habits with Ms. Nevsah Fidan Karamehmet

Change your Dysfunctional Breathing Habits with Ms. Nevsah Fidan Karamehmet on March 16th-18th at the New Life Expo, 34th Street and 8th Avenue in NYC

NEVSAH will hold a series of workshops and lectures in New York City about changing your breathing and maximizing your health and life.

NEW YORK (PRWEB) MARCH 15, 2018

Ms. Nevsah Fidan Karamehmet (Nevsah), the Founding Director of IBCF (International Breath Coaching Federation) based in Miami, Florida announces her workshop and lecture series that will take place at the Wyndham Hotel New Yorker(34th street and 8th Avenue), between March 16th and 18th.

Nevsah (http://www.nevsah.com) has over 20 years of experience in breath coaching. She has been analyzing, testing, learning, researching, talking to doctors, trainers, clients for decades -- and she scientifically concluded that each and every single person starts building a different dysfunctional habit at the age of 3. Dysfunctional habits somehow get triggered from many situations in life. Ultimately they can cause physical and psychological diseases.

“We have to learn to analyze the breath and figure out the dysfunctional breathing habits learned in our clients’ childhood," said Nevsah. "And now coach them to learn a new healthy breathing habit. Practicing breathing techniques is nothing more than taking a pill when we feel bad or stressed or we have aches. It is not going down to the core of the problem and it will not heal the cause. We need to find the cause of the discomfort our clients have been experiencing and work on changing it. We cannot practice some technique that’s going to be useful only for a little while."

Nevsah will be in New York between March 14 and 19 to teach her method so anyone can use it to get rid of the discomfort they are experiencing.

“Breath is not something to be worked on or manipulated or controlled," Nevsah also indicated. "We can and should let the breath be as it is, and surrender to whatever is going on in our breath. WE HAVE TO CHANGE OUR PERCEPTION OF WHAT BREATH IS.”

If you would you like to change your dysfunctional breathing to maximize your health, professional coaching lectures and mini breath sessions will be available to everyone at this three-day event.

This is an opportunity for people who are not familiar with breath coaching to learn about how they can maximize their life with a breath coach. Come and experience miracles during this process.

Educational Capnography Training with cooperation of NFS Life School and Better Physiology

Educational usage of Capnography is an important and necessary training for those who want to specialize in profession of breath coaching because it enables analysis to be done in accordance with respiratory physiology to work in concert with respiration.

We, as breath coaches and breath analysts cannot work without investigating the effects of breathing on respiratory chemistry. Because the way we breathe also affects our respiratory physiology any moment not only the way we feel and think. Breathing exercises without regarding to the respiratory system may fail for this reason and may pose a risk to our health.

Certificate Program of Educational Usage of Capnography trains breath coaches in:

(1) Analysis of the effects of breathing habits on health and performance based on behavioural sciences,

(2) Coaching clients for overcoming dysfunctional breathing habits that affect the physiology, psychology and performance with the basis of behavioural sciences,

(3) Educational Usage of Capnography and related devices (such as EMG, HRV) to overcome dysfunctional breathing habits of clients and to learn new habits

BREATH COACHING VERSUS BREATHING
By Nevsah F. Karamehmet

I HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT breath techniques were no different

from pyschological drugs. People nowadays somehow choose

addictions instead of real healing. Practicing breath techniques for me

is like eating a banana every single day. You get addicted to the state

the technique is providing and soon become a state dependent person.

I have tried maybe hundreds of different techniques including

diaphragmatic breathing, rebirthing (which is chest breathing mostly),

pranayama, kriya, transformational breath, sufi breath, art of living and

many more and yet somehow could not find what I was looking for.

Why? Because I don’t eat bananas each and every single day either!

For me, being and staying at a certain state does not feel good or free.

I like eating and tasting everything in life. Life is such an adventure,

such a colorful expereince. Why should I stay on one state of being

when I can experience endless states of my being?

I have been into breathwork (even if I dont call it ‘’work’’ anymore)

for 15 years. After trying, learning, getting certificates on different

breathing techniques, joining different workshops, groups, organisations

and teaching most of the techniques, I realised that all of those

were right and wrong at the same time. Somehow ‘’the choice of being

in one state’’ was the main problem. And that was a dysfunctional

breathing habit, a breathing problem.

Breath is such an endless, unpredictable, free, spritual being. It just

can not be controlled or put down to one specific figure. It just can’t.

When we practice one kind of breathing, it not only becomes our dysfunctional

breathing habit but also limits the way we view, experience,

understand and enjoy life. Life is also endless, just like breath. How

can we stick to one kind of living habit as we do in breathing?

THIS IS ACCCEPTING LIMITS BY CHOICE

After 15 years of working with breath, analysing, testing, learning,

researching, talking to doctors, trainers, clients I learned that each and

every single person builds a different dysfunctional habit after 3 years old.

Dysfunctional habits somehow get triggered from many situations in life.

Such as:

Social: specific people, social situations, authority figures, intimacy,

Environmental: physical locations, times of day, environment

changes,

Travel: meeting new people, airplanes, elevators,

unfamiliarity,

Tasks: public speaking, test taking, driving, playing an instrument,

Emotions: stress, fear, anger, frustration anxiety, depression, worry,

Behaviors: initiating sports, going to sleep, changing posture,

Symptoms: fatigue, headache, pain, breathlessness, asthma,

arrhythmias,

Cognition: expectations, specific thoughts, memories, intentions,

beliefs,

Physical changes: exercise, breathing sensations, hunger,

Physical challenges: allergy, medical condition, effects of drugs,

Self: responsibility, self-esteem, self confidence, vulnerability.

So we as breathworkers have to ‘ to not work with the breath’’. Instead

of doing exercises around it, we have to learn to analyse the breath, figure

out the dysfunctional breathing habits learned in our client’s childhood

and coach them to learn a new healthy breathing habit. Practicing

breathing techniques is nothing more than taking a pill when we feel

bad, stressed or when we have aches. It is not going down to the core of

the problem and healing the cause. We need to find the cause of the discomfort

our clients are experiencing and work on changing it, not practicing

some technique thats going to be useful for awhile.

People have dysfunctional habits and they get stressed because of

stress not because stress stresses anyone, but because they have the dysfunctional

breathing habit and they just cannot handle stress. Practicing

a technique won’t help them cope with stress untimately. It is going to

make these people dependent on the technique. We did not heal them,

we taught them a method they can use when they are stressed, to get

rid of the discomfort they are experiencing. But we did not dig into the

main cause which is the dysfunctional breathing habit and heal it.

WE HAVE TO CHANGE OUR PERCEPTION

OF WHAT BREATH IS

Breath is not something to be worked on, or manipulated or controlled.

We can and should let the breath be as it is, and surrender to

whatever is going on in our breath. Every manipulation, every technique,

every ‘’work’’ we do with the breath leads to dysfunctional

habits which are the cause of many problems we are facing.

We do not need breathing techniques, we need to relearn our dysfunctional

breathing habits and learn new healthy habits in our

everyday life. And that would be by working with a breath

coach who can really, truly analyse the client’s breath,

dysfunctional habits, breath chemistry, pyschology,

behaviour and physiology. •
